"Get on the floor!" Zayden yelled at me. Obviously, I listened and lay down. I stood no chance against the people outside with guns. I lay there terrified of the gun shots being fired nonstop. What if they never stopped? The only weapon I had was a pocket knife.
"Liam you take those three over there I'll take the rest." Zayden spoke confidently. I guess the shorter man's name is Liam.
They jogged outside carefully and I could hear them yelling and shooting. After what seemed like ages, it all stopped. A ghostly silence took over the atmosphere.
The clouds had completely cleared up by now, making it much brighter with the moon. In came Zayden pressing against Liam's bloody leg. I sat up now and stared in horror. His right leg had been shot and he kept groaning in pain.
"Fucks sake, Liam." Zayden roared as he set Liam down carefully on an old, russet chair.
I cleared up my throat as my voice shook, "I have a first aid kit...and I have taken out bullets before..." Liam groaned even louder now.
"I don't want your help. I am fine. We need to get back, Zayden, or else she will never make it!" Liam yelled.
Zayden seemed to be in deep thought.
"You will never make it on time, Liam. You'll lose too much blood." He explained.
Liam furrowed his eyebrows and seemed to be defeated.
"Fine, then. Go Zayden. I will let her help me but you need to make sure you hurry back and take the meds to Ethel."
"But what if she tries to hurt you?" I stood there rather more confident. So he is scared and intimidated by me? Or is it simply because I am a stranger? I may never know, but for now that is taken as a compliment.
"Oh come on! She is a plain girl. I'm sure I would be able to take her down even with a wounded leg!" Liam chuckled through gritted teeth. Offended, I backed away.
"If you don't want my help than go ahead and leave."
"No. You are going to help him, now. He would lose too much blood before we even get half way home." Zayden harshly spoke.
I stood there dumbly with both my arms crossed.
"Only because you are letting me take some medicine as well." I bluntly uttered .
"I will get there once I am fine, Zayden. You know me." Liam spoke in a boastful manner.
Zayden nodded in approval and picked his bag as he directed his eye sight towards mine one last time.
"Sorry did not catch your name, sweetheart?"
I debated whether to give him my real name or some made up one, but I finally managed to come up with something.
"Olivia." I smiled rather too big.
He smirked, "Do something wrong to my friend and you will have to be dealing with me my sweet Olivia. I will find you." And with that last warning, he was soon out of the building.
"Come on Olivia, do your shit. It fucking hurts..." Liam groaned.
Rolling my eyes I retrieved my pocket knife and tore open Liam's jeans, allowing easier access to the bullet. I opened the bottle of alcohol and poured it carefully over Liam's wound.
"You know I have been shot before and I managed to care of it myself. I did NOT need the help of anyone else." I made sure to emphasize the 'not'.
"Do you want some type of medal or?" Liam sarcastically said before groaning in pain.
I found some of the materials I would need in my bag, thankfully. The sooner I got this over with the better. I could easily leave him here wounded and bleed to death, but then again Zayden seemed pretty serious about coming to find me... The last thing I needed was some man coming after me while my family tried to survive.
I started sanitizing my hands with some alcohol ready to take out the bullet.
"Okay, try not to yell or else you will be letting others know we are here. We do not want any more injuries." Liam squeezed his eyes shut as I started the "procedure". After I managed to retrieve the bullet from within his skin I stitched him up rather quickly.
"Luckily, you did not pass out while I did that." I laughed.
"I felt like I was about to..." He complained. I wrapped his wound with a gauze and surgical tape.
"Just rest on it." I recommended, proudly.
He barely managed to mutter a thank you.
"What was that?" I teased.
"I said, fucking thank you." He became more intolerant.
"Damn."
"Watch it or else I will tell Zayden."
"Whoa, is he your daddy or what?" I ridiculed. It did not hurt to mess with him, especially in his current state. It's not like he could get up and chase me around easily.
"He's my step-brother. He will kill you. You have no idea how much power he has."
"If he really wanted to he would have when I was about to stab him and you to death."
"That's because he heard you needed some medicine, as we do. He felt pity for you." He defended.
A different feeling had taken over this conversation. Curiosity had got into me.
"Why did you guys need it...? Who's Ethel?" I questioned quietly.
"That is private information. Now if you do not mind, I would like some rest." Liam lay on the cold floor of the store.
"Aren't you afraid someone else might come in and hurt you?"
"Nah. Got my gun right here." He said tapping his black leather jacket above his rib cage.
"Well, okay then. Bye..." I spoke cautiously.
"Yeah, yeah." I washed my bloody hands with some water from a water bottle I had in my bag and set foot back to my 'home'. I hoped the medicine I carried would be suffice for my father.
