Once I reached my destination:home, I rushed over to my father.
"Did you find anything?" My mother questioned with worried eyes. She got up from the wooden chair and paced towards where my father's limp body lay.
"Luckily, yes mama." Kneeling down beside my father, I opened up the jar and gave my father a pill with some bottled water.
"How did you even find anything out there? When practically all medical necessities are gone?" She questioned as I saw my sickly father gulp down the pill.
He gave us both a weak smile. I kissed his forhead and walked aside gently pulling my mother with me.
"I barely managed to get this medicine. If it weren't for a man I wouldn't have got an-"
"A man???" My mother interupted.
"Yes, mama. A man. But let me finish please."
"Alright. Alright. You have to be more careful out there though." She shook her head in despise.
"After papa goes through all this medicine I don't know how or where I will find anymore." I spoke almost inaudibly so father would not hear.
My mother sighed and shut her eyes tightly, clearly holding back her tears.
"We just have to have faith in God and pray for him to get well."
"I know..." I responded;although, I knew that maybe, just maybe... I would have to do a little more than just pray, very soon.
I'm going to have to go out further. I will have to extend my search. I will do whatever is necessary to get my father healthy.
I need to go out.
I need to go out and find him.
I need to find this so called Zayden.
He has more medicine.
The problem was him and Liam needed it for a loved one as well, I figured. They needed it as much as papa did.
Mother broke me out of my train of thoughts, "So, tell me what exactly happened out there with this man?"
Knowing she would not let this go, I decided to might as well tell her the truth. Well not completely of course.
I left out the fact that there were others shooting and aiming at Zayden and Liam, right outside the store. I did not tell her that I helped Liam retrieve a bullet out of his leg. I did not tell her that Liam had stayed at the old run down place to rest before setting back on foot.
An idea struck me.Liam. Liam is probably still there!
"Mama."
"Yes?"
"I'm going back."
Mama seemed bewildered and confused at my sudden statement.
"I need to go back and find them. I need to start searching for more medication. Before we know it will be all gone."
"B-but where are you exactly going?"
"To look for Zayden."
"No. No. Thats too dangerous. You don't know the man! It's not safe!"
"It's never safe. You can't trust anyone either way. It's a sick and cruel world. Either way, I rather at least TRY."
"No, Aubrey. No."
"Mama, pardon me for my language but we have been through so much shit together I'm not going to let papa down. I'm going to go back out there and look for the two men, Liam and Zayden. They took more than I did. I'm sure they have more back at wherever they're at."
"How are you sure they will let you take some more?"
"I-I don't know. But it's worth a fight."
"And sweetie, you don't even have enough supplies to last you for a long period of time..."
"Like I said, we have been through so much. I am sure I can take it. I will fight. I will fight and fight until he is better. I just hope one day this havoc ends."
Mama then embraced me in a warm, motherly hug.
"Te amo mucho, Aubrey." She whispered
"Yo tambien te amo."
"Please return back safely."
"Like I always do." I tried saying in a cheery voice but failed miserably.
I walked over to my father and squeezed his cold hand gently.
"Te amo."
I got up, grabbed my bag and my handy pocket knife. Here I go once again.
"I will be back. Please stay safe." I spoke heading towards the exit.
"I know." Mama clutched onto her cross necklace.
I sneaked back into the darkness. You would imagine I would be used to this;however, something about this whole "sneaking around, don't cause trouble, and don't get killed" kind of a deal, still somewhat terrifies me.
I'm risking it all. If something goes wrong or if I get captured, or killed, I won't be able to see my parents anymore. It will all be over with.
Anxiety ran through my veins as I made my way back to the former place I had encountered Zayden and Liam.
I quickly krept inside and shut the door. My eyes darted to the cold floor where I had last seen Liam laying on.
He was gone.
I headed further into the shop and checked the small storage.
Nothing.
No sign of him was to be found. He must have left already. With a wound like that on his leg, he should not be far from here. If anything he is probably limping in the dark shadows of the woods for safety.
I swiftly left and quietly made my way to the near by woods. The sound of leaves crunching beneath my feet seemed to echo as I entered, the dark eternity.
I started tiptoing, avoiding stepping on more leaves or twigs. I was walking to no where.
It almost felt like some magnetic force was dragging me somewhere unknown.
