"Tess!" I opened my eyes and saw Dalton sitting right in front of me. "Tess, are you okay?"

"What?"

"You've been screaming for the past two minuets. Were you having a bad dream?" I couldn't stop crying. He hugged me and let me cry. "Do you want to talk about it?" I nodded and told him everything that happened to me. "Wow. So you really didn't do it." I shook my head even though it wasn't a question. "Well, I can't sleep anymore. Do you want something to eat?" I looked over at the clock on his desk. It was three in the morning.

"Are you sure your not tired?"

"Nope, but I am starving. Are you tired?"

"No, lets gets some food." He smiled and headed out the door. I jumped out of the bed and followed him downstairs. I didn't believe him when he said he wasn't tired. He had dark bags under his eyes and it looked like he hadn't slept in days. "I really think you should rest." I said.

"I don't..." His voice was barely below a yell. He stopped and put his elbows on the side if the railing and leaned, looking at the ground. "I'm sorry." I walked over to him an put my hand on his back.

"Hey, look at me." I said. He shook his head.

"I can't look at you. If I do I'll scare you and I'll have no more friends. Let me just calm down and then we'll get something to eat."

"I'm not your friend because I think you're manly and don't cry. I'm your friend because you are a great person and I actually don't care if I don't get paid for this job anymore. Yesterday was the best day I've had in five years. Now look at me." He let out a deep breath and looked up at me. I didn't see why he was so upset and thought I wouldn't be his friend. Then my eyes adjusted to the dark and I saw his eyes. They weren't the normal ice blue. They were blood red. I started to back away. "Tess, please, you said..." He started. I tripped over something and fell to the floor.

"I thought you were just crying. What the hell are you?!" He walked over to me and tried to help me up. His eyes were no longer red they were ice blue again. His hand touched my arm and I ripped it away. "I'm nothing. Please, let me help you up."

"No, tell me the truth."

"If I tell you the truth will it really make a difference?"

"Not really, but..."

"Exactly."

"Why were your eyes red?"

"Because I'm hungry. Now, let me help you up and we'll go downstairs and eat. I'll explain everything down there." I, reluctantly, nodded my head and he pulled me up. I followed him down the stairs and he made some bacon and poured himself something to drink. "Now, can you explain?"

"Yes, I'm what you call a vampire."

"I figured that. What do you call yourself?"

"A vampire, but I'm not a normal vampire. I wasn't made. I was born."

"How? I thought once a vampire was made it stopped the aging process."

"Yes, but, you see, when the first vampires were made there were two types. A vampire and a lamia, but over the years all of us became vampires. I am a lamia. I've already stopped my aging process so I will always be 16, but I was born. A lamia can stop the aging process whenever he or she choses and a vampire stops aging once the venom is all the way in their system."

"So, you were born a vampire. Do you have..." I trailed off and pointed to my teeth. He chuckled and shook his head.

"Yes, are you calm enough to see them?"

"I think I'm pretty calm." He nodded an then his canines grew. They looked really sharp, like if you were to touch them they would cut you. "Have you ever killed anyone." Once I said killed he started shaking his head.

"No, no, no. Only bagged blood for me." He held up his mug. "B positive and O negative taste the best. I wish we weren't out. Instead I'm stuck with AB positive." He stuck his tongue out an wrinkled his nose. That face made me laugh a bit. "But as I was saying. I've stopped my aging process so I might as well be a made vampire. I can't start it back up. I'm stuck the way I am forever. I no longer get sick. I can't have any kids like my mom and dad did because I stopped it." He shrugged his shoulders like it was no big deal, but I felt a little bad for him.

"So, are you faster and stronger? Have better senses?"

"Yes, you haven't realized that I move really fast?"

"Yeah, actually I have, but I didn't think anything of it."

"Well, now you do. You can't tell anyone I told you. Swear on your life you won't."

"I swear on my life. Your secret is safe with me."

"Thanks. I knew I could trust you."
