Kian and I stand in front of the class presenting our project. We finished it the day it was assigned because we didn't want to worry about it all week. He also ate supper with us that night and my family went overboard asking questions. Ever since then he as been acting pretty weird. I have also noticed that he hangs out with James a lot. Like he rode with him to the party and all of that. I try not to scowl at the memory of the party two nights ago. I am actually slightly pissed at Kian for not doing anything about the girl. Honestly he just sat there, then when she threw up on my he didn't even help out. Then he didn't look at me for the rest of the night when the girl finally stopped throwing up. I did end up dancing for a few minutes before Marcus found me again and told me we better go. I didn't get to ask why Marcus was there in the first place. He was home for the weekend why did he go to a high school party?
"And um yeah..." I hear Kian struggling to finish up the oral report.
"That is our presentation! Any questions?" I say with a million dollar smile and my hand on Kian's shoulder. I need to ask Kian what his deal is. When no hands are raised the class claps as we kick up our stuff and head back to our chairs. Once seated the teacher calls out another group to go forward. Kian and I both sit at our table taking notes like we were told to do for the rest of class listening to people talk about their subjects. I am so happy lunch is next because I am starving. The bell rings just as a group finishes up and everyone does a sigh of relief. I collect my things and head to my locker. Once I can see me locker I see a note sticking to the door. I walk up to it slowly. It reads
Thanks for what you did for me at the party on Friday. It meant a lot. It doesn't say who it is from but the hand writing looks familiar. That is to weird. I shake off the weird feeling as I open my locker and stuff my books inside. Just before I close my locker a hand grabs it throwing it open again. I turn to look at the culprit.
"Julian what are you doing?" I ask looking at him weirdly. He holds up his books and attempts to put them in my locker. I block his path with my hands on my hips, "No my locker isn't yours." Julian sighs oozing anger.
"I just need to get to lunch really fast and my locker is upstairs." I raise my eyebrow asking for more details, "Okay so Stacy has been waiting for me at my locker every day. She doesn't get the hint that you are more important to me than that relationship and she won't leave me alone. So I figured if I stopped going to my locker before lunch she would leave me alone. It is getting really clingy and annoying." Julian explains grabbing the back of his neck.
"Fine but this better be the truth. Also, why not ask for a new locker?"
"You can do that?"
"How do you think I got this awesome one I am not senior yet."
"Oh."
"Yeah. You can use mine till you get a new one."
"what is your combination?" Julian asks. I look through my locker for a sticky note and a pencil. Once collected I write down the combination, 05-36-21 Locker number 123, and start to hand it to him I pause.
"Don't loose it." I give him a stern look he salutes me and quickly grabs the sticky note out of my hand, throws his stuff in my locker, and runs to lunch. I roll my eyes at his childishness and slam my locker closed and hurry to lunch. I stand in the lunch line for a good 10 minutes before I get my food then I walk over to my table. Kian isn't sitting by me today, he has been acting so weird. I sigh and pick at my pizza. Knowing I have to eat something I force it down my throat as I read my book.
~*~*~
"Fiona!" I hear someone yell my name. I stop and look around. Not seeing anyone I continue walking, "Fiona stop!" I hear the voice again it is a little closer. I stop again looking around. I feel a hand on my shoulder and I flinch away scared. I turn and it is Kian.
"Oh hey stranger!" I say with a small smile. I don't want to scare him off. Honestly I just want to be his friend so that I can have one good summer.
"I wanted to say sorry for not helping you at the party with the girl and for avoiding you." He says. I stare at him in shock. Is he even a boy? Honestly I have ten brothers and none of them apologize for ignoring me. Actually most of them really ever apologize for anything.
"It is all good." Say pulling my backpack up my shoulder again. I look at him in the eye. He scratches the back of his neck awkwardly and opens his mouth as if he is going to say something but is cut off when a football hits me in the back of my head. I stand there in shock and slowly turn around. I am then face to face with James.
"Clipper." I growl, "You better run." James eyes open wide then he sprints away. I grab the football and Kian's and run after him.
"Why are you bringing me?" Kian asks slightly out of breath. I roll my eyes.
"You were going to say something." I answer gasping for air. I hate running it is the worst thing ever invented. I run a little faster since I am loosing Clipper. Kian catches up to me after rounding the corner.
"Um yeah I was wondering if you wanted to go get pizza or something when my football season is over." Kain explains. I smile a little. Wait. Is he asking me on a date? I mean a pizza date is a great idea, but I do not want to be in a relationship right now. I stop in my tracks and look at him. Kian looks worried looking in James direction every once and while.
"Like a date?" I ask slowly. Please say no please say no! I think to myself. It isn't like Kian isn't good looking I just don't see him like that. Honestly I am putting him so far in the friend-zone he won't ever know how to get out of it. For now anyway.
"Oh gosh no!" Kian says, "Oh sorry if that was rude, but you aren't my type." He adds holding his hands out in a defending manner. I smile a little at his reaction.
"Oh good I was worried for a second there. " I accidentally say out loud. Kian smiles a little realizing what I said, "Wait what is your type?" I ask.
"No one here. Look James is over there again lets go beat him up!" Kian says with a cheery smile then runs away. I stand there confused but run after him. This school literally has every type of person how is his type not here? I mean he is a jock like guy. I shake my head forgetting all about it when I see James running in my direction I bring the football up to my head and throw it at him. It hits him in the place where the sun doesn't shine and he drops to his knees in pain. I walk over to him a few people staring at us. Kian is holding his stomach from laughing so hard. With the football at my feet I bend down to Clipper's ear level and whisper,
"That is for messing up my hair." Before picking the ball up and walking away like a runway model. Once I round a corner I full on sprint back to the door hoping I can still catch a bus. Once outside I see the mini bus and I walk up to it. The bus driver opens my door and get on not caring if it goes by my house or not I sit down and pull out my phone.
