A little blonde girl and her black haired friend ran around on the golden sand. They were picking up shells and watching the wildlife. The blonde girl did a backflip into the salty sea spray. The other climbed up the sand dunes and twirled, sand swirling around her and filling her hair.
"Thalia!" the black-haired girl called, bringing the blonde to her side. "We should go home now!"
The blonde, Thalia, pouted. "Come on, Koris, it's not even sunset yet!"
The other girl, Koris, smirked. "Can't you see? The Green Sun is rising over there!"
Thalia sighed. "Ugh, whatever. Lead the way, mother."
Koris smiled at her friend's sarcasm. She began to clamber over a golden dune, Thalia close behind.
Thalia always stared at her feet when she walked. As such, she didn't notice Koris had stopped in front of her until she crashed into her. They both tumbled to the ground
"What the heck?" Thalia grouched, sitting up. "Dude, what..."
Koris slammed a hand over Thalia's mouth. "There's someone in our house," she hissed. "We need to be quiet."
Thalia looked over Koris' head. She noticed blonde hair underneath a bronze helmet before Koris yanked her back down.
The pair crept up to their back window, silent. Thalia peered over the windowsill, finally seeing the two in their house.
There was a man and a woman. The man had long blonde hair, although it swept around his face, free from a helmet, unlike the woman's. They both had purplish skin. The man wore a blue coat with one sleeve torn away. On the arm without the sleeve there was a bronze gauntlet. Beneath the jacket was a torn white singlet. Around his waist was a green belt, from which a few bottles hung. Inside the bottles was a strange purple liquid. His pants were a light khaki and he had bronze kneecaps strapped to his knees. Like Thalia, his feet had white cloth wrapped around them, his toes exposed.
The woman's clothing left little to the imagination. She wore a helmet over her blonde hair, which is what Thalia had seen earlier. Over her purple chest was a bronze corset, which stopped just above her stomach. Her hands were both covered in leather gloves. Her leather tights had bronze plating on the front. Her knee high boots had the same bronze.
"The girl's not here," the female stated in a well-rounded and foreign accent. "She may be gone for a while. We don't want her friend to know we were here. They're always together."
The man took a raspy breath. "We could take both," he mused. "We could definitely experiment on the other one."
Who are they talking about? Thalia wondered. Me or Kori?
"But she won't be as receptive," the woman complained. "It's bad enough Samos has the boy. We can't afford any mistakes!"
"Maia, we need this girl," the man argued. "Otherwise our plan won't work. Would you rather it be you? Or me, your beloved brother?"
Maia sighed. "Fine. Let's get out of here."
The pair disappeared in a flash of purple light.
Thalia and Koris stood up. "What the heck was that?" Thalia shouted.
"I don't know!" Koris' voice was shrill and panicky. "But... we can't stay here anymore! They'll... they'll find us anywhere!"
"There's nothing we can do," Thalia whispered. "We just..."
"Who's the Green Sage?" Koris asked. "They said he was protecting someone. Maybe he could protect us too?"
"Oh!" Thalia shouted. "Good idea!"
The two turned away from their house and ran, as the sky grew darker. They reached the edge of the beach, where the sand turned into grass. Huts clustered over the small land. The pair peeked into the hut closest to the beach. Inside, there was a small purple-haired boy holding a chisel and a hammer. He stared at a smallish boulder, lost in thought. On his shoulder was a glittering golden squirrel. He appeared to be the only one who lived in the hut.
"He's purple," Thalia sighed. "Not green."
One second, the pair were going to walk into the hut belonging to the sculpting boy. The next, hands had wrapped around Thalia's legs and lifted her, from the ground. Thalia tried to scream, but the hands closed off her throat as she tried to breathe in.
Thalia's eyes darted to her left. She saw seeing that Koris was held in the same way by the woman who was in their hut before. That means that the man is holding me! she deduced, struggling with her captor, trying in vain to suck in a breath.
Then the pair of girls and their kidnappers poofed away in a flash of purple light.
