Jaklyn gently shook the farmer’s shoulder. “Sir,” she whispered.
“Huh?” The farmer sat bolt upright and looked around. “Oh, well done, my girl, you actually got those fleabags back into the pen! Now I can sleep in peace! Thanks a bunch, take this Power Cell for your trouble. Oh, and, nice touch with that protection spell.”
Jaklyn snatched the Power Cell from midair and it shrunk into a ball.
Jak and Daxter meandered down the path, slowly making their way to us.
“Just in time,” Jaklyn giggled. Then, louder, she cried, “Heads up!”
The Power Cell soared through the air and bounced on the grass just in front of Jak.
Jaklyn burst into laughter at Jak’s expression. He was precariously balanced on one foot. His hands were raised in front of his face in defence from the rock hard object that had sailed towards him. He’d shied away slightly, and Daxter was sprawled across the ground as a result. “Hey, watch it, Jak!”
Jak stood indignantly and tucked the Power Cell in his bag.
Suddenly the tablet in my pocket began vibrating. I pulled it out. Two new Power Cells collected, the display on the screen read. I opened the quest menu app and scanned the quests for Sandover Village. As I watched, the app updated itself to three new Power Cells.

“Yes!” I said. “Seven down, thirteen to go!”
Jaklyn shook her head. “Seven?”
“We found four on Geyser Rock, remember?”
“Oh yeah... where are the boys?” They weren’t standing where they were a second ago.
Jaklyn started to walk off, towards the hut.
“Jaklyn, wait!” I called. “I... I have a secret to tell you.”
“What is it, sis?”
The next words came out in a whisper. “I... I’m pregnant.”Daxter’s P.O.V
“I’m going to kill you,” Jaklyn hissed at me, slamming me against the wall. “I’m going to skin you alive and turn your hide into a little cape for myself. Then I’m going to cook your meat and eat it. Then I’ll use your bones as food for the Flut-Flut. How dare you get my sister pregnant? You little rat!”
Whoa, what’s going on? Jak asked.
“Uh, well, you see, Jak –”
Wait, pregnant?!
Jak also lunged at me, his hands wrapping around my throat. You didn’t tell me? I can’t believe you, Daxter!
“It’s not what you think!” Daxterette shouted, bringing an angry glare from both humans.
“What?”
What?“It was an accident!”
“What do you mean?” Jaklyn asked.
“I mean, we didn’t mean to touch tails!”
“Oh.” Jaklyn’s face softened. “Is that how your species conceive?”
Jak chuckled. Heh heh, Daxter, you’re a daddy!Jaklyn stared at me intently. “That’s still inexcusable. As punishment, I get to hit you every time you speak a syllable for the rest of today, as well as tomorrow. And then, I get to be the first one to hold the baby.”
“Whatever!” I screamed. “Just let me go!”
I then got slapped across the face seven times.
That’s gonna leave a mark, Jak said.
Shut up! I shouted in my head.
You shut up! Wait, what? Are you talking how I’m talking?
Apparently so! Yeah, and Jaklyn can’t hear me now!Cool. So, I like Jaklyn.
I figured.
And you like Daxterette.
No shitake, Sherlock.
What?
I don’t want to swear! And shitake sounds like the ‘s’ word!
Okay, okay. But, Sherlock?
I don’t know... I’ve heard it before somewhere.Okay. Now -
“Hey, what are you two doing?” Jaklyn growled, glaring at me, then Jak, although her glare was more of a stare when she looked at Jak. “Quit it!”
I smiled her way. “Just come over here for a sec,” I said stupidly. After eight more slaps, she followed me into an empty hut, the fisherman’s hut. “What is it now?”
“Don’t slap me when I say this.”
She smiled. “Okay. Go ahead.”
“I know you like Jak.”
She raised her hand to hit me again. I flinched and said, “Wait, wait! He likes you too!”
She froze, her hand dropping to her side. “Really?” Her face turned to a dreamy look.
“Yes!” I said. “But, because he’s mute, as well as a little coward, he can’t ask you out.”
“He almost did, at one point,” Jaklyn blurted. “But you’re right. He can’t. So I should, right?”
“Exactly.”
Jaklyn seemed deep in thought. Then she smiled. “Of course.” Then she slapped me thirty-one times. “And that’s for talking, you little runt.”
I grinned, then slumped to the ground. My face was burning from her many, many slaps, and my head was also pounding.Remind me to not speak ever, ever again.
