I'm sorry, but he's not coming back

She was at a bar drinking, just trying to forget about Steve. It wasn't helping. It reminded her of Steve when Bucky died.
How did Steve do it? How could he continue fighting after his best friend died? Fighting was a distraction.
Steve never talked about Bucky after he fell from the train. Only once when he was sitting in a bar drinking, trying to get drunk.
Peggy didn't care if she got drunk, she didn't care if she was going to feel terrible the next day.
She didn't care.
Steve is gone. The only person she fully cared about is gone.
All she has left is Jarvis, Howard, and Angie. Knowing that she had a few friends didn't even cheer her up.

"Hey Peg," Angie said as she arrived at Peggy's apartment.
"Hello."
"I've been worried about you, it's been a week since you've come to the diner."
"Are you okay?" Angie asked with a worried tone.
"What do you think?!" Peggy began to yell.
"I'm sorry Peg. Just take a deep breath and-"
"You don't understand. I don't want to live without him! I- I can't live without him." Peggy's voice cracked as it was hard for her to speak.
Angie said nothing and just hugged her. They let silence take over.
"I don't know what to do anymore. I have no hope now that he's gone. How- how can I continue without him?"
Those words broke Angie's heart. He best friend was in pain and there was nothing she could do to stop it.

Angie whispered to her, "Listen... you're Margaret Carter! You can overcome anything, and you definitely don't need a man to complete you!"
"I know that, but that's not it. HE'S GONE... It should have been me."
"No, Peggy don't say that. What would I do without you?"
"Well, you wouldn't be risking your life to be my friend. I put everyone around me in danger."
"I wouldn't want it any other way," Angie smiled as she looked at Peggy noticing that she stopped crying.
Peggy hugged her friend and said, "thank you for always being there for me. I know that you never met Steve, but he would have loved you. And he would have thanked you for taking care of his best girl."
A small smile came over Angie's face. "You're welcome. Thank you for being my best friend."
