Peggy was home after a long day of work getting ready to go out with Angie. Although she wouldn't admit it Angie was trying to set Peggy up with people. They were apparently going to a movie or something, Angie never told her which one. As she was walking into her kitchen she noticed a box that she didn't remember being there. She inspected it incase it was something that Hydra left for her, it could have been a bomb. Then she saw his name, Steve Rogers. She didn't think about what she was doing and decided to open it.

She took out what was inside; a picture of skinny Steve, a couple files about the details of his life and death, and an envelope. She stared at the picture of Steve remembering how she loved him the moment she laid her eyes on him. She quickly dropped her gaze to the envelope, it had her name on it. Margaret 'Peggy' Carter, She stared at it, this must be what Howard wanted her to read. She quickly tore open the envelope, she saw a drawing of her and a drawing of a monkey on a unicycle. She recognized it immediately. She was there when he drew the monkey, and remembered that day as the day Steve saved his best friend, James Buchanan Barnes. She was surprised to see the drawing of her she didn't know that Steve ever drew her, and she was honored. How did he draw her without her noticing? She looked so beautiful, more beautiful than she ever thought she was. It brought tears to her eyes, in that moment she realized how much Steve really loved her. She saw a letter that was addressed to her, from Steve. Then she read it.

Dear, Peggy
I hope that you never have to read this. If you do it means that I never got back, we never got married, and we never had kids. That terrifies me. I'm writing this before I go on a mission that I might not come back from. I've decided to give this letter to Howard for safe keeping, and hopefully it will make its way to you if I don't return. I just wanted to tell you that I love you so much! More than you'll ever know. And I wish that I could've said that to your face, but I was too scared when I actually had the chance. I hope I get a chance to just tell you that, and ask you to marry me (I'm still nervous about that). I know that you haven't told me that you love me, that's something I regretted when Bucky died, but you don't need to. You told me that you loved me without words. I know that if I die, however that may be I will always be with you. I wish I could be with you as I'm writing this, but I have a country to save. I hope that you're not mad at me for having to take a rain check on that dance. I still don't know how. I want you to move on without me, it's okay to move on without me. I just want you to be happy. I was when I was with you and I will never forget it. Tell Howard thank you for me. I hope to see you soon.

Love, Steve

She couldn't stop smiling and crying as she read the letter, he knew that she loved him. He wanted to marry her, and have a family. She looked through everything in the box again and found a box with an engagement ring inside. It was the ring he was planning on giving her, but he never got the chance. She couldn't stop thinking about what her life could of been. She had to remind herself that Steve was gone, that Steve is gone.
And he wanted her to move on without him, but at the moment she couldn't. She just wanted Steve back. Her heart was broken, and nothing could fix it. He was never going to come home. She replayed the scene in her head.

"I'll-I'll get Howard on the line. He'll know what to do."
"There's not enough time. This thing's moving to fast and it's heading to New York. I gotta put her in the water."
"Please don't do this. W-we have time. We can work it out." ...

She knew that he wasn't going to make it back, but she couldn't admit it at the time. That was the last time she spoke to him the last thing he said was "I'd hate to step on your-" that's when he went into the water.

She would never forget. Every time she thought about it, it brought tears to her eyes.
She broke down and didn't think that she could ever be fixed.

"He's not coming back."
