I curled myself tighter into my jacket, wanting warmth but staying on the cliff with Levi. "Winter is a bitch." I mumbled, puffs of air coming from my nose and my mouth. Even so it felt like just yesterday I had been sweating relentlessly, and now the cold wind whipped onto my tan skin, making me shiver and bury my face deeper into my wool scarf that was wrapped around my neck. I let out a shudder and my teeth chattered, feeling the cold swirl around me. "Oh come on you brat it isn't that bad." Levi scoffed, a big puff of air escaping his mouth. I rolled my eyes in response.
My eyes were burning from looking at the white snow for too long and keeping them open so the cold air could make them feel like ice cubes. "Yeah shush, you're hot so no wonder you are saying that." I felt the heat rush to my cheeks as I had uttered out the wrong thing. "Well thanks." I blushed, looking away. "You know what I meant. You're very warm. Which is weird for someone who has such a very cold personality." I glared icicles at him, but he did nothing in response except for saying, "Oh my, I am so wounded." I heard him say sarcastically. I opened my mouth to retort something back; but nothing had come to mind.
I thought for a while as the song of the birds had dimmed down to a soft chirping that was quiet and muffled. Most of the animals in this forest now were very likely in hibernation and most of the birds had soared away to the warmer areas. Sometimes I wished I was a bird, to fly away from the cold or any of my problems that lurked. "OH MY GOSH!" I sat up fully, my hands that were covered in my mittens clapped together. "Happy Early Birthday Levi!" I squeaked, laughing as I dug carefully in my bag and pulled out a neatly wrapped gift in grey and white striped wrapping paper and a dark purple bow on top. "It costed me like, all my money but I felt like you would like it. 'Cause Hanji told me you like tea, so..." I handed it to him, crossing my fingers; hoping that he would like the birthday gift I got him.
I put up my finger as he started to open his mouth. "I told you that I would repay you, so have it, and don't even try to give it back." Levi scoffed again, rolling his eyes and teared apart the wrapping paper that covered up the rectangular box. Once he took out the box, his eyes widened as he gripped the box tightly. "Eren, how did you-" But I finished his sentence before he uttered out another word, "Know? Well Hanji told me you wanted it for a while so I got it for you." I smiled, shrugging up my shoulders. Hanji and I have been talking 2 weeks ago, when I saw her walking with Levi after school. And now that I think about it, Levi and I never really talk to each other except for when we are at the cliff. I guess I kept putting off the thought; and maybe it was because it hadn't really bothered me much if I did let it bother me and get to me.
Levi looked at the gift, his eyes saying something I couldn't make out, as he kept his mouth straight as a line. "Thanks, brat." Levi put his hand in my hood and ruffled my hair, a soft look in his eyes as he did so. His hand had provided me with more warmth than my fur hood had done. My cheeks heated more as I smiled at him, glad I bought the 100 dollar tea cup set that coasted me everything I had. Even if my parents are successful at what they do doesn't mean I have all this money to blow on anything or everything I wanted. "So," Levi continued, putting the box next to his leg, his hand on the top like it was so important to him. "How is Armin?" Levi asked, looking up at the blue sky that was slowly getting dimmer.
I was shivering less, not thinking about the chilling cold that nipped at my skin, my nose and the tips of my ears red. "Yeah, he is fine. We hung out a few times last week, but it feels off; we haven't really been talking much, and it sucks that we don't cause we are like, best friends." I sighed, another heavy puff of air leaving my mouth, visible to me due to how cold it was. Each breath I let out took a cloud of air with it.
