When I typed this piece of work, I was aiming for it to be fitted in this story I'm working on. But in the end, it became more of my own rants. And also, as I typed out the issue, I realized that today is 1st of December like the month of Christmas! And here I go, writing down something about Valentine Day, which is a few months away.
Oh well, once again I warn you, it's going to be dull and full of negativity but then again, if you manage to read this far, then congratz!
We Don't Celebrate Valentines
As Muslims, we don't celebrate Valentine Day. It's not part of our beliefs. And the Western media and its influences will never cease to spread the joy and love (get it?) for this particular celebration. Not that we have anything against it, infact as teenagers with our hormonal urges and rages, some gestures and acts shown during Valentine are trending especially among couples, regardless of ages, cultures and races. Do I have to list it out? You know, giving and receiving chocolates, confessing and yeah that's all I can think of that sound innocent. I know, I feel like rebutting myself just now.
But there's also another reason why we don't celebrate Valentine Day. Oh and it's more than just about religion and culture or boundaries for that matter. It's a taboo.
In my opinion, the act of showing affection translates to a day for mass-losing of virginality. So you score points in your bucket of sins. But hey, it's your choice, I'm no saint either! But remember every choice has consequences. And this is why I don't get why people do not use protection. And it's still alright if nothing happens after that. But by the end of the year, nearing New Year and after New Year, grab the nearest newspaper if you dare and read and Bam! You will see innocent babies are born (Hooray! Not quite)
I really don't want to discuss on this matter but since I brought it up, I might as well go till the end. Brace yourself...
Innocent babies are born...I'm going to be fast and to the point on this part...
Innocent babies are born...

Yup, call those people cruel, killers and murderers but our standard society is not that innocent either. See, in the eyes of society, if they get a wind that this daughter of so and so is not a virgin, they won't make your life easy. Infact, they won't make the whole family's life easier. They're gonna literally stare you down at the mamak stalls, treat you coldly or with respite and usually this family, who falls victim of the chain to please the society will cover up by marrying the couples off regardless of their own children's interests. But the thing is, the stories will still persist even after the parents married off their children. Of course, the news will eventually dies down but the damage has already been done. Because of this fear of social rejection, if a daughter of so and so ended up realizing that she's pregnant out of wedlock, and she couldn't confide to anyone because obviously her parents are gonna bashed her and also do irrational things like yelling at her or worse throw her out of the house, and then the boyfriend also succumbs to fear will turn into a useless douchebag and leave her, not giving her any solution if he'd known at all and it goes on...which eventually led her to make another sinful decision - for making herself tainted her own life redder, she taints another life redder. She will try to destroy evidence that could lead her and her family as social outcasts. And that evidence is none other than the innocent infant.
Of course, the daughter and the family could still try to ignore the judging eyes of mere society that are made up of mere humans inclining to deeds and sins, and just try to move on with their lives. But it's always easier said than done. For instance, bullying. Sometimes people around you simply ignore if you're being bullied or even worse, other times they might join the bully of his/her torments on you for fear of being the next victim. Either way, you have to put up with the bullying. And enduring such things are physically and mentally exhausting. May I also add socially exhausting as well? So it's not easy as we see in movies or read up in books or comics. Infact, let's be realistic, nothing is easy.
