After the feast, we were escorted by our prefects to our common rooms. Hufflepuff's is down in the basement. We descended down the long, crazy staircase and found our selves in a dark, gloomy place, in front of a bunch of barrels. Apparently, instead of a password, you had to tap on the barrels in a specific order. Since it was the beginning of the year, the code was simple. Tap the 1st barrel, 2nd, 1st again, and then the 5th. The prefect boy explained carefully that if you did not get the combination right, you would be soaked in vinegar. Marvellous.

The prefect girl tapped the barrels and they began to shift aside. They revealed a hidden door, and inside was a very cozy room. The ceiling was low and moonlight streamed through the windows. Everything about the room was cozy. The fire, the bright plants that were everywhere, the warm brown furniture, everything was comforting. "First years over here!" The prefect boy said. We all went over to a large bulletin board that had several pins and only two pieces of paper. One was a "Welcome to Hufflepuff" sign and the other was a list with all of the first years name on it. "This list tells you what dorm you're in. Boys dorms are to the left, girls to the right. Classes start tomorrow and we will pass out your schedules in the morning at breakfast. I hope you have a great year, and welcome to Hufflepuff!" I was almost begging to get tired of hearing that.

I quickly found my name on the list and found out which dorm I was in. When I went up the stair case, I found that all the dorms were down a long hallway. It reminded me greatly of a hotel I had once stayed in with my parents when we went to visit family up north.

I wondered down the hall, searching for my room. When I finally got to the right door, there was lots of giggling on the other side and I hesitated going in. Slowly, I opened the door and was greeted by several squeals from the other girls in my room. There was five of us in all, and the other four had somehow gotten in the room before me. "Hi! We're your room mates! I'm Natalie, and these two are Rachel and Susie." The loudest of the three girls said. I recognised them from the sorting ceremony. They were obviously girly girls with their hair just so, and their pink PJ's. I never really got along with girly girls. They tend to... Annoy me. "I'm Carlysle." I said walking over to my bed where my trunk was already placed. "Oh my gosh! Did you hear her talk?" Said Rachel. "Yes! Carlysle, say something else!" Susie said. "Yeah, where are you from?" Added Natalie. I sighed and hung my head, this was going to get really old, really quick. "Sorry girls, but I'm tired, so I'm going to bed." That was followed by more giggling and I left the room to go change in the bathroom at the end of the hotel-like-hall.

I came back and the light was off except for light coming off the giggling trio's wands. They were siting on Rachel's bed and whispering. The fourth girl that I hadn't met yet was asleep in her bed. I stumbled to my own and crawled under the covers. Then I remembered Iridessa and found her asleep in my robe pocket. "Hey, how do y'all do that? With your wands I mean." I asked. They stared at me like I was a big idiot. "Uh, you mean Lumos?" Susie said. "That's really basic magic."

"Well I've never used magic a day in my life, so there ya go." I grabbed my wand and whispered, "Lumos." The tip of my wand lit up and my face lit up with it. That was my first actual spell. "Thanks!"

"Don't mention it." Natalie said hesitantly, then they went back to their whispering only quieter than before. Sometimes you get this sickening feeling that someone's talking about you. Yeah, I got that feeling. "Here Iridessa, come here." She slowly opened her pupilless eyes and gave out a loud yawn. The girls slept out a little scream and yelled, "What is that?"

"It's my dragon. Her name is-"

"You brought a dragon to school?!?"

"Shut up!" The fourth girl said. "I'm trying to sleep!" Instantly, all our lights flickered away and it was pitch black. "Goodnight." I said before I tucked myself into bed with Iridessa wrapped around my fingers.
