The very next morning, a most peculiar thing happened. I was sitting on my window sill, daydreaming about magic and Hogwarts, when a loud screech was heard outside. I looked up to see a very large tawny owl soaring to my closed window! I rushed to push it open, and the owl barely made it into my room. It fluttered around for a bit before it landed firmly on my dresser. "What are you doing up here Carlysle?" My dad asked while coming in my room. As a response, I just pointed at the bird, which now had turned its head backwards to look at itself in the mirror above my dresser. "What in the world?" He said as he went over to the owl and stroked its feathers. "Daddy, what's that on the floor?" He looked to where I was pointing and stopped in his tracks.

"Carlysle, do you know what this is?" He asked, while carefully reading the address on the envelope.

"No."

"This is your Hogwarts letter. You're a witch!"

"What are you talking about Mark?" My mom said. In all the commotion, we hadn't noticed her standing at the door way. Matthew, my brother, was planted firmly on her hip. I quickly looked at my father for help, but he looked just as frantic as I felt.

"Is that owl here for the reason I thing it is?"

"Um what reason do you think it's here for?" I asked.

"To bring your Hogwarts acceptance letter." At that moment, you could have knocked us over with a feather. Mom kept her same face expression the entire time. She was serious.

"How did you-" my dad began before Mom cut him off. "Do you really think that after being married for twelve years, I wouldn't know you were a wizard? My grandma, the one that died when she was a kid, was a witch. I understand why you didn't tell me because of the bad timing, and I always wondered if you and Matthew would be magical or not." My mom said that last bit to me. Then there was an awkward silence.

"Well Carlysle, looks like we have to take you shopping for school.

My parents took me and my brother to the wizard shopping area, and I just couldn't get the thought out of my head. "I'm going to Hogwarts."

With the letter came a school supplies list and Dad explained on the way up there about why my letter had not come sooner.

"You see Carlysle," he said. "Back in America, they send the letter before term starts, which is later than when Hogwarts does. Hogwarts, however, sends their letters on the child's eleventh birthday. Since term is starting in less than a month, they had to your letter pretty fast." He also explained things like how he would have to transfer the American wizard money to the wizard money here and other things like that.

When we finally got to where we were going, my eyes bulged at the sight. Hundreds of wizards in long robes were gathered at shop windows and were chatting happily with each other. My dad had also explained how several shops were closed of destroyed during the war, so many of them were new or reopened.

While my dad went to exchange the money, we walked around and looked at all the shops. When we passed Weasley Wizard Wheezes, someone yelled from behind me, "Hey Carly, over here!"

I turned to see Teddy with bright red hair walking towards us. As he got closer, his hair started to change colour. It changed to a very dark brown, the exact shade as mine.

"Who's that Carlysle?" My mom asked.

"I met him at the Weasley's house. His name is Teddy."

"Did someone call my name?" He said. "It's nice to meet you Mrs. Millington. I'm Ted Lupin. Everyone calls me Teddy."

"It's nice to meet you too, Teddy."

At that moment, the Potters walked up to us. It still blew my mind how I actually got to meet them. Harry's one of the most famous people in the wizard world! People all around us were pointing and staring. Harry put his hand on Teddy's shoulder and smiled at us.

"Good to see you again Miss Carlysle; and you must be her mum."

"Hello, I'm Julia Millington. Oh, there you are Mark." Mom said as my dad came and joined us. "I swear Julia, I have no idea how this money works."

"I can help," said Teddy. "Please Harry? I'm all done with my shopping."

"It's okay with me." Mrs. Potter said. "Harry, how about we go get the kids some ice cream? Teddy can come meet us when he's done helping them." Harry nodded and they all said goodbye.

The shopping went smoothly with Teddy with us. He informed me that it's best to get your pet and wand last, so that's what I decided to do.

We got all my school books, robes, and other supplies until my list was almost completely checked off. The only things left were a pet and my wand.

We walked into the pet store and I noticed all of the strange beautiful creatures around me. "Oh my gosh, there's so much to choose from."

"Yup, choosing a pet is the hardest part." Teddy said. The store was crowded, so my parents decided to send us in alone and gave Teddy the money we would need. My dad was really getting this wizard currency down.

"What do you have?" I asked. Teddy laughed and said, "I'm kind of a strange case. I have a dog. He's part wolf on his mum's side."

"How does that make you a special case?"

"Most first years aren't allowed to have a dog. Uncle Neville convinced Headmaster Wood to let me have him."

"Oh, cool. What's his name?"

"Moony. His name is Moony."

We walked around the shop and looked at all the cats, bats, owls, and toads when I noticed a few cages in the back to the store. There was a sign the said "Enchanted Miniature Dragons!" With a quick scan at my list, I saw that miniature dragons were considered a pet. "That's new." Whispered Teddy, mostly to himself.

We walked over to them and Teddy read a little note on the back of the sign about the dragons. Apparently, like wands, the choose the wizard.

I got down on my knees and looked at all the little dragons. Then, out of nowhere, a dragon came and pushed its snout through the bars of the cage. While I stroked it, the dragon began to flap its wings.

"That means its happy." Said Teddy, referring to the what he read on the note. "I think I just found my pet." The dragon was smaller than all the other breeds of dragons, but it was one of the biggest of its kind, so I guessed it was female. The scales were pearly and sparkled when she moved in the light. Her eyes were the neatest thing, they were a rich purple with a lot of gold, red, blue, and black specks. There were no pupils.

"Teddy, what kind of dragon is this?"

"Looks like an Antipodean Opaleye to me. You can tell because it has no pupils."

"Okay, let's get her." We checked out and showed her off to my parents outside of the shop. "What's her name Carly?"

"I think I'll name her Iridessa."

"Alright, now all you need is your wand and that's a special thing, so I'm not going with you. I think I'll head back to Harry and them now."

"Okay, bye Teddy." We waved and then I went to get my wand.

Inside this very old building was a very, very old man named Olivander. He was very kind and instantly started looking for me a wand. We had already gone through a dozen when we came back to where I was sitting with six more boxes. "Okay," he said. "How about this one? Holly, 7 in., unicorn hair, very swishy. I flicked the wand and watched as one of his windows broke. "Sorry." I muttered. "Oh, it's alright! These things happen all the time when you're in the wand business. Now try this one." In my short time of being in the store, I had broken three windows, killed seven flowers, cleared three wand shelves, and toppled over the stack of wands that did not work for me with the wand that I was just given. "Now let me see... Ahhh yes. Try this one. Pear, 12.5 in., dragon heartstring, slightly springy." The moment I grabbed the wand, a rush of energy went through me. I flicked the wand and everything I had done with the bad wands were fixed. "Now, there is your wand."

My parents came in and paid for the wand while I examined it. It certainly was the best looking of all the wands I had used. The wand had a dragon carved in it that wrapped around the wand. The end of the tail met the the tip of the wand. "Wow. This is my wand." I thought. "Now all I have to do is pack."
