Turns out it was just a little virus I got from one of the kids. It was gone in a few days and I felt perfectly fine. Before I knew it, it was time to go back to school. I wore my new shirt and bracelet, and had my new books in a bag to read on the train ride. "Do you have everything, Carlysle?"
"Yes, Momma."
"Are you sure?"
"Hold on, let me check." I happened to be a little OCD and I made very detailed packing lists for anytime I go somewhere. I pulled out my list and looked at all the checkmarks. "Let's see..." I said while going down the list. "Uh, yeah, I think so."
"And you have Iridessa?"
"Oh! Thanks Mom!" I said while running down stairs and grabbing Iridessa up from her napping spot by the fireplace. She draped herself around my neck like a scarf and fell back to sleep. My little dragon had grown considerably since I bought her Diagon Alley. Both Professor Hagrid and Mr. Charlie assured me she wouldn't get much larger. "Okay! I'm ready to go, but we better hurry! If I miss the train it's gonna suck for us!"
"Alright, let's go knucklehead." My dad said while heading out the door.
We drove to the train station and said our goodbyes, then I got on the train and found an empty compartment. I waved out the window again and saw my little brother give me a small thing with his hand that could have very well been a wave. I beamed and laughed, then felt a little jab in my heart. He had grown a lot since I last got to see him in person, and I was missing him.
The door slid open and interrupted my thoughts. I turned to see Teddy sitting down and looking at me. "Hey, Carly! How was your birth-day?"
"Kinda crappy and kinda not."
"That meaning what?"
"I was sick, but I got amazing letters from Alice and the triplets, and they gave me this shirt and this bracelet."
"Let me guess. Emma picked out the shirt and Alice got the bracelet."
"Actually I don't know which one picked out the shirt, but yeah, Alice got the bracelet."
"Talking about me?" Said Alice as her and Austin walked in and sat down. Like before, they sat together and I ended up having to sit by Teddy. "Just talking about your amazing present!"
"Oh it wasn't that amazing. It's just a bracelet."
"Don't say that! I love it!" Teddy gave a small cough and said, "Not that I don't love listening to you too talk about jewelry, but what are we going to do? We got a long ride ahead of us and I don't think we'll be asleep through this one."
"Yeah, what are we gonna do?" I asked, thinking about how quickly we all fell asleep last time. "Hey, Austin, why don't you show them what you got for Christmas." Alice said. "Well, okay." He reluctantly pulled out a little checkered table out of his pocket and pulled down the side table by the window. He set the board down and tapped his wand on it. It grew to a full size chess board with all of the pieces. "Hey, it's a pocket edition!" I said and then started laughing at my own joke. They all looked at me funny. I didn't know wether it was a muggle thing or an American one, so I just didn't try to explain. "Nice set, Austin." Teddy said, admiring the chess pieces. "Thanks, so Carlysle," Austin said, changing his attention to me. "Have you ever played wizard chess?"
"I don't know about wizard chess, but I was on the chess team at my old school."
"It's different." Teddy said, giving a little smirk. "Alice would you like to play me to show her how it works?"
"Sure, Teddy." The first thing I noticed was that they move on their own. You just tell them where to move and they go there. They moved a couple times and then Teddy left his queen available. Alice told her knight to take it out, and the little man on the horse broke the queen piece's head off. "What the crap?!" I screamed and watched as the piece got off the bored. "Want to play?" Austin asked. "Yes!"
