Chapter 3 - Painful letters home

Netta dropped the phone and slid down her door till she was sitting on the floor. She buried her face in her arms and knees and started sobbing. That call had hurt her probably close to what had hurt him. Netta hadn't realized just how badly he had been hurting but then again she didn't have a mate yet. Yes, everyone said that losing a mate was like losing part of yourself. If you didn't have a mate how could you really understand? She ended up sobbing for a long time before she finally was able to stop. Once she did Netta knew what she was going to have to do.

She slowly stood up and went to the bathroom and washed her face. When she looked in the mirror of the bathroom her eyes were puffy and reddened. "Sorry Gael, I tried but I guess I didn't know what to do." Netta was only 19 and her sister had been about ten years older than she was. After pressing a cold washcloth against her eyes again she slowly walked out of the room. *Alpha I need to speak with you Gael contacted me. He asked me to pass a message to you.*

The Alpha glanced at the clock on the wall and sighed. He had been ready to go to bed since it was later. *I will meet you in my office. The Luna will be with me.* The Alpha looked at his mate. "Gael contacted Annette and she has some information for us." He didn't bother getting dressed and settled for the shorts he had been in.

The Luna stood as well from the couch they had been relaxing on. She wanted to swear at the boy but for the moment till she heard the message she wasn't going to. The Luna had been ready to go to bed as well and settled for her shorts and night shirt. "Let's go and see what she can tell us." She followed him out of the suite and down to the office.

When Netta walked in she glanced at them before looking down. "As I said Gael called and he asked me to pass a message to you Sir, Ma'am. He wanted both of you to know that he and Bridget are doing okay. He has a job and is in a safe place. I have the number he called from but he said that he was going to destroy the phone." She started crying since she didn't know what to do. Netta felt bad because she had probably been one of those who had been trying to cosset him.

The Luna came over and wrapped her arms around Netta. For the moment she didn't say anything and settled for comforting her. They needed more information from her before they could let her collapse again. From the feel of her she had been crying already and before she could do that again they needed to talk. "Annette I am using my power as the Luna to calm you. We need information from you and I am going to comfort you till we have everything we can get from your conversation."

It took some time to wring everything from her they could. It was hard on all of them but the two Alpha's were satisfied they had everything. "Netta keep this quite. For now we need some time to decide what we need to do." The Luna gave her a comforting hug as they were talking. Once Netta had calmed down she urged her to go and relax for a while.

Once Netta was out of the office they closed the door and both settled down. "What do we do?" He asked her as he rubbed his chin. The Alpha honestly didn't know what to say. They had tried to do what they had felt best for Gael after the loss.

Gael had been working with the horses when it had happened. It was one of the things he had been really good at. For some reasons the horses really responded to him. Yes they were used to wolves but he had something they could trust. Even the cattle tended to react better to him than some of the others. Gael had decided it was due to the influence of his mate. Before they had mated he had been good with the animals but after there just seemed to be something different. It might be the change in his scent or even with how he handled them but it had started after they had mated.
