Shelby and I stayed up talking until the first sign of morning light shun through our dorm window. She filled me in on everything-from Ash finally figuring out I was his Shadow, about her and Nick climbing Crystal Mountain, and how everyone seemed really happy and positive that I was coming back to Chance Academy. Of course all that changed when I was caught in a slightly compromising position with Logan.
"So you have two Shadows, and one is good and one is bad?"
I nodded at Shelby, I almost smiled at her blonde sleep tossed hair and tired blue-green eyes.
"And everyone lied to you.." Shelby suddenly jumped off of her bed. "I helped those assholes find you! I thought they were doing it because they cared about you, when really they were doing it because they want your powers to be used for their side." Her usually composed face was now red with outrage and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Arabella this is not funny." She placed her hands on her hips which made me lose it.
"I missed you." Was all I said, trying to compose myself.
Shelby rolled her pretty eyes. "So who's winning the competition?" She asked suddenly and I met her gaze with a curious one.
"What competition?"
"The competition for your heart? I myself like the mysterious bad boy, but Ash is goody goody, but in a really hot way-"
I threw a pillow at her and her words were muffled. "Should you be talking about other guys like that when you have a boyfriend?" I asked and Shelby tensed. "Wait.." I trailed off watching her reaction, "What have I missed?"
She shrugged casually. "Me and Lukas broke up, it wasn't working."
I raised my eyebrows. "I thought he was the one? I mean he did like cats."
Shelby made a face at me, and then shrugged casually again.
Then something seemed to click in my brain.
"Who is he?"
Shelby stared at me dumbfounded. "Who's who?"
"The guy you like." I waggled my eyebrows jokingly but Shelby looked like a dear caught in headlights. "Oh my god you really like this guy!"
Shelby tried to look innocent. "I don't like anyone."
"You were practically obsessed with Lukas, it would take something pretty huge-like a guy- to change that." I said, watching Shelby closely, but she only shook her head.
I rolled my eyes. "I'll find out sooner or later. Ninja Arabella is back bitches."
This time Shelby rolled her eyes.

Attending classes like a normal person was amazing. I was back where I belonged even if I wanted to strangle half the people in this place. Of course half my professors asked me, "Are you feeling better?" and "Good to see you back Ms Mortem." and it dawned on me that Ms Eloise obviously came up with a cover up story for my absence. And most importantly, I didn't comment on Mr Carey's balding head in Math class.
The only problem with all these classes was the amount of thinking my brain could accomplish. Where was Logan? It was agitating me that I didn't know what had happened after I left, which was my own fault for leaving room 501 yesterday. As happy as I am to be back, nothing is the same. The family I thought I had, the family Ms Eloise said I had, all lied to me. How could I ever trust them again? And Ash.
I stuck my head into my Math book so hard the sums and equations would probably imprint on my face. He's so mad at me and I hated it, the pain in his beautiful steel grey eyes when he saw me with Logan tore me apart. I vowed there and then that I would never hurt him like that ever again.
