“Can’t you do something?” I asked, slipping on my robe.

“I don’t think so.” Tobi said, handing me a bucket full of water and a rag. I took it, wiping Sasuke’s face down gently, keeping track of the visible wounds so I could go back to them later. I looked over at Itachis lifeless body lying on the stone table on the other side of the room.

“He gave every bit of power he had to his brother before he died,” I mumbled, “he was able to let everyone he loved know he loved them before he passed…” My hand stopped on Sasukes neck, taking my time to observe how alike the two looked.

“That’s all you can really hope for,” Tobi said comfortingly, taking me by surprise. He wasn’t the one to show he could relate, and to try to lighten the blow. I grabbed the bandages Tobi had placed by my side and wrapped them around Sasukes chest, taking note of how physically fit he was.

I shook my head, this was Itachis brother I was thinking about, it was kind of gross to think of it. I placed the blood drenched rag in the bucket, twisting away the filth and withdrawing the rag. Without warning, Sasuke flew up and pushed me away.

“Where am I?!” He tried to stand, but his injuries prevented much movement.

“Careful now, Sasuke, your brother may not have been after your life, but he still whooped on you.” Tobi laughed, spreading to me when I heard the super serious Tobi say ‘whooped’. Sasuke looked over at me, his eyes narrowing as he looked me over.

“You’re wearing an Akatsuki robe, but you look… familiar.” I cleared my throat, standing up and buttoning my robe up.

“I was with your brother when he was forced to kill his…” I looked at Sasuke, “your clan.” He activated his Amaterasu, aiming at me, something I’d learned from experience I couldn’t get caught in. I jumped to the side, my hair flicking out towards where I’d been standing, getting caught in the fire.

Drawing my kunai, I cut off my hair without hesitation, the weight of years of growing my hair out falling to the floor, burning into a small pile of ash. I jumped forward, placing the kunai against Sasukes neck, the hand shaking uncontrollably.

“I loved my hair, you asshat.” I put the kunai away, flicking Sasukes forehead playfully, stepping back next to Tobi. Tobi went on to explain the history of the Uchihas, while I fiddled with my freshly cut hair.

It had been charred slightly at the end I cut it off at; giving it a lighter gray coloring at the end, and now it only fell to midway down my back. I was finally able to let my hair down, giving in another few inches of length, but still not giving me the comforting feeling I had just a few moments ago.

“Rin,” I realized Tobi was talking to me now, waving his hands in front of my face.

“Uh, yes?” I flipped the hair I was playing with over my shoulder, loving the fact that it only hit my chin instead of taking an eye out like it used to.

“Sasuke needs you now; he wants to know more about his brother.” Tobi pushed himself off the table where Itachis body lay. “You knew him better than any of us.” I nodded, more than happy to get to know Itachis younger brother.

“So that’s all?” I dug into my pocket, bringing out the ring Itachi had given me as he drew his last breath.

“Not all…” I held out the ring, allowing Sasuke to look, but pulled away before he touched it, holding it close to my heart. “He told me… to take this ring, and remember how he felt about me.” I unhooked my necklace, slipping the ring onto the chain and re-hooking it around my neck.

“How he felt about you?” Sasuke leaned back into his chair, “I thought you said he was a like a… brother to you?”

“Yeah… but that was a better way of referring to him, rather than assume we’d be together.” I sighed, rubbing my forehead. “I didn’t realize he felt that way until it was too late.” I had cried myself dry; there was no point in lingering on the thought.

“You’ve been so helpful…” He leaned forward, placing his elbows on his knees, connecting his hands in front of his face and placing his chin on them. “But what do you plan to do now?” I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do, but I had a faint idea.

“I think I want to go back to the Leaf Village.”

“I think…” Sasuke stood, placing a hand on his hip and scratching the back of his neck. “I think I’ll go with you.”

“You’re not going to go after the Leaf Village for doing this?” I was totally convinced this was where I’d have to say goodbye to Sasuke.

“No… I think Itachi would have wanted me to forgive the village.” I completely understood which was why I decided to go back. “The big question is whether or not they’ll take us back without a problem.” I shrugged, standing up and stripping of my Akatsuki robe and searching for my black leather robe.

“They might accept you with some hesitance, but if they find out I was a member of the Akatsuki…” I trailed off, not entirely sure if I wanted to finish the sentence.

“I understand.” Sasuke grabbed my hand, pulling me back and forcing me to face him. “Your secret is safe with me. Thank you for being so amazing to my brother.”

“It was my pleasure to know your brother… he was a great guy.” Sasuke agreed, walking with me as I went to let Tobi know we were leaving.
