Time seemed to stop. Evalynn had flung me off her, and I was dazed on the ground, after hitting my head. Skylar was shouting something, and Diamond was holding my head and waving her hand in front of my face.
I couldn't hear them, and above us, I could sense a wind storm brewing. A tornado would be here soon if we didn't stop her.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Evalynn jerkily walk towards Evie who was crouched on the ground in shock.
"Evie." I choked out, struggling to breathe.
Skylar and Diamond spun around, and both made a dash for Evie. "Sky!" I tried to shout, but I couldn't talk. Diamond tripped, and we both watched in horror as Skylar threw herself down on top of Evie, as Evie let out a terrified scream, and Evalynn swung the axe down.
Suddenly, Evalynn stopped. I struggled to stand, and stumbled my way over to her. Evalynn was frozen, the axe inches above Skylar's back. Evie and Skylar were clutching each other, eyes squeezed shut.
"Evalynn?" I said gently. "Eva?"
She stared at me, confused. "What's going on? I heard Evie scream. Is she okay?" She said in her usual, bossy tone.
Evie's eyes flew open. "Evalynn!" She shoved Skylar off her, and jumped up, tackling her twin in a bear hug. "Oh, you're alright!"
Evalynn hugged her back, obviously confused. "Well of course I'm alright! I thought you were hurt, I heard you scream."
"That's cause some idiot with a battle axe was trying to kill her." Diamond grumbled as she helped Skylar off the ground.
"What?" Evalynn let Evie go. "But I'm the idiot with the battle axe..."
I put my hand on her shoulder. "Hey." I said gently. "I'll explain it to you later. Why don't you set up camp with me, and let the other girls practice with their elements?"
She grinned. "Okay." She grabbed my hand, and led me over to the pile of tents and supplies, while the other girls headed down to the river where they could all practice.
As soon as they were out of sight, I grabbed Evalynn and kissed her. We had agreed not to tell anyone that we were doing...well whatever we were doing, because Skylar would be pissed off with me, Evie with Evalynn, and Diamond couldn't keep secrets for anything.
She pulled away and grinned up at me. "I love being alone with you."
I laughed, and kissed her again. "But we should set up before they get back. They might get suspicious if they come back and nothing was set up." I mumbled around her mouth. "And we don't know how long they'll be down there."
She brushed some hair out of my eyes, and smiled. "That's what makes this so much more fun."
I smiled back down at her. She gently put her hand up to the slap mark that Evie left on my cheek.
My faced burned. "It's hideous, isn't it? What will people in public think?"
"They'll think my fist hurts pretty damn hard when it connects with their head." She replied smoothly. "Trust me, Troy. I've got you."
