A Summer Of Saturdays

When everything else is a jangled sideshow of garbage and scrap metal
We go down by the fields and get fucked up.
The little molecules tango through my skin, tense muscles unwrap themselves from their painful grip on my shoulders and ribs
The craving settles, my shortcircuited neurons fall into steady patterns, and I think this could be enough-
We just want to share this with each other, a cotton blue breeze between my toes
The sunset seems to glow and if I'm half a bottle in or more
I could mistake your skin for love

We're just kids, you know
We party like rockstars
We sing with the radio
In the back of our cars

And we'll wake up like vampires, messy and pale, the sun comes up and it's vicious, it feels just like death
Everybody threw their tasseled caps in the air last weekend, cops said slow down but didn't check their breath
But the river's running, the music vibrates in your chest, it felt kind of good to laugh for real and it's too warm for clothes
If we're lucky we've got some time left

And we've got it all
Yeah we're young and we're free
Maybe stars always fall
But it's all right with me

Cause this town wasn't meant for us to stay around, we drive too fast past empty storefronts on the main drag and watch the sky
Every night is Saturday in the summertime, we light up the beach and the smell of gasoline lingers in the dark
We don't need anything but adrenaline, sweating hands and slamming hearts, they'll say we're wasting our time
The fields dry, the storms come, nothing lasts forever so drink up beautiful, regrets are never worth it and I just want to see your smile

So I'll keep this in mind
Keep you here with me
I promise I'm fine
Tonight we'll just breathe.
