Lonesome

  Lonesome is the wind
Around the soaring eaves
And lonesome is the sigh
Of one pair of feet through dry leaves
Lonesome are the clouds
Separate, they drift as one
And quietly, the rain falls down
As their gray souls come undone.

Lonesome are the raindrops
Weeping down the windowpane
The only sound in this whole house
It still epitomizes pain
Lonesome is the darkness
With no firelight to curl around
It can only murmur as the house
To mourn, settles down.

Lonesome are the wolves
Crying defiance through the night
Tired though they are
They don't give up the fight
But lonesome are my dreams
When there's only me and sheets to take
And lonesome is the crack of dawn
When lonesome I must wake.
