Redin's P.O.V.
Redin watched Ray's already pale face turn the color of blank paper and that basically gave Red his answer, but he'd rather hear him say it. Why? He wasn't totally sure. He did know why he had asked on the other hand, it was because that look Ray gave him when he walked out, and to be honest Redin knew just from the way he behaved.
When his dad came home ready to leave in a rush again saying that a boy his age had been assaulted by another he knew it had to be Ray. Everyone in this town knew each other on a first name basis, so Redin immediately dashed out to see that he had been right. Redin wished that he hadn't felt this sick sense of worry wash over him.
"Redin Jackson!" His dad snapped, scolding him, but Redin ignored him. Focusing on Ray and his answer.
"Why does it matter?" Ray asked, his voice taking a defensive edge.
Redin had to resist smirking because he knew he had Raymond caught and it was obvious that Ray knew it too.
"Because I already know the truth." Redin explained with a shrug.
"Okay and you knowing that I'm gay will help you how? Get some friends? Cause you're clearly lacking that." Ray shot glaring at him.
Red stepped back in shock, not from what he said, but from the fact it actually hurt him a tiny bit. Redin shook his head deciding that he was done, besides what had he been doing anyway? He was supposed to stick to the plan, stay away from Raymond Spears as much as he could and right now he was breaking that rule, that promise. He rolled his eyes pretending not to care and headed back into his house without uttering another word. Once he was back in his room he turned on his stereo and listened to Bring Me The Horizon's 'Seen It All Before', trying not to connect the lyrics back to Ray.
Red drifted to sleep to Oli's voice, his mind clinging to the lyric, "I don't want to do this by myself, I don't want to live like a broken record. I've heard these lines a thousand times and I've seen it all before."
The next morning he was met again with no wake up call from Ash and he had to walk to school by himself yet again. Much to his surprise he did find the red head leaning against his locker giving him a sad smile. She wrapped her skinny arms around Redin when he was close enough to her reach and she pressed her face into his chest saying a soft, "I'm so sorry."
Red put his arms around his short best friend, letting her know he accepted the apology as he replied, "I'm sorry too, you were right. I should have went to you and I wish I had."
"Well it's going to be okay Red, we'll work through this together like we always do."
He nodded squeezing her slightly before letting go so he could open his locker and get on with the rest of the school day. Redin heard it before he saw it, the sounds of a fight, but it was a single voice that grabbed his attention.
"Okay I get it, you hate people like me! Would you just stop!"
Then skin on skin, a solid punch, and a desperate cry. Before he knew what he was doing he dropped his stuff and ran towards Ray's voice.
Raymond's P.O.V.
The ride home with Drew was tense and embarrassing for Ray considering he had just got into it with his son. On top of that his parents were going to flip shit when they saw that he got a ride home in a squad car, then his sister would be pissed when she found out about her tires. The evening had certainly turned sour at that point and it proved to worsen when he was met with his dad when he opened the door. Ray clutched the milk jug he managed to keep with him, but much to his surprise his dad didn't say a word to him and walked outside straight to the cop car. Raymond let out an exasperated sigh as he went to put up the milk. He softly padded up to his bedroom, hoping he would be left alone.
He listened to the sound of the front door being opened, shutting, and then being locked. He counted the footsteps his father took before he made it up stairs and he crossed his fingers that his dad would just call it a night, just leave this whole event alone till tomorrow.
That dream was dashed when the door creaked open and his father Bennett asked, "Are you alright?"
Ray only nodded, deciding not to voice his fears to his dad, he would brush them off to nothing anyway.
"Good, well next time try not to get the cops involved with your personal problems." He stated leaving and shut the door behind him.
Ray was left thinking, 'My personal problems?! I was pretty much being attacked! What did you want me to do? Tell the cop to leave?!'
Raymond decided not to let himself go to bed angry, so he picked up his notebook that held his new story about the prince and his savior and he fell asleep in the middle of writing the scene where they first meet. The next morning he was woke half an hour earlier than usual thanks to his sister.
"We're gonna have to walk to school today." She stated ripping down his covers before heading into the bathroom.
"Hey I could have been naked!" He whined, before letting out a groan getting up to quickly get dressed and waited on his sister to finish up in her restroom so they could leave.
The walk was silent and Ray wondered exactly how mad Bec was at him. He had yet to tell her what George had done yesterday, so Raymond felt very vulnerable as they approached their school. Once inside he realized they were pretty early since everyone was standing around and chatting, despite that Rebecca went to class anyway so Ray was alone and he felt anxious, but he decided to copy his sister and headed for his first period. Along the way he began to hear the sounds of chuckling and he tried to convince himself that it wasn't about him, he was just being paranoid.
"Hey isn't that him?" A girls voice questioned loudly and suddenly large hands grabbed Ray by his shoulders and slammed him into a locker, its seems that he had thought to soon.
Ray was met with the sight of a beefy guy in the school's football jersey and a rebel flag ball cap on his head towering over him. The guy looked like he should have been out of school three years ago and reeked of cigarettes and dip.
"This you?" He asked gruffly shoving a phone in Ray's face and Ray saw that he had been right about getting that video to his school. Ray gulped unsure how to answer his question because he was pretty sure that he was about to get beat up either way, the hostility in the guy's eyes said it was coming. "Come on you little bitch own up to it and I might make this easier on you."
The guy slammed Ray into the locker again when he was still silently so he shouted, "Okay I get it, you hate people like me! Would you just stop!"
The jock smirk and swung his arm back as Ray braced himself against a blow to the stomach and he was shocked that no one was trying to help him. They were all just standing around watching, some even cheering. Out of nowhere he gets shoved to the ground and as the asshole punched him in the ribs Ray saw that the crowd began to break apart a bit and that they all looked highly shocked. Ray prayed that it was a teacher on the way to save him as he brought his arms up to protect his face from being hit. Out of nowhere the weight was gone, but the sound of hitting kept on and he was confused till he put his arms down. Above where he laid was Redin knocking the guy in the face till his nose began to bleed.
He shoved the jock to the floor growling, "Touch him again and you'll think that just felt good."
The crowd began to disperse, grumbling about the fight ending and the guy stood to his feet saying, "Well of course the loner stands up for the fag, how cute."
Redin let out a growl and kneed the guy in the nuts, bring him back to the ground.
Unfortunately a teacher did see that, Mrs. Redes came rushing over to the three of them demanding, "What happened here? Blaze, Spears, and Johnson come with me right now."
Redin turned back to Ray and held out a hand to help him to his feet, Ray took it and got up.
On the way to the office Redin mumbled, "You really are the type that has to be saved all the time aren't you?"
Ray almost tripped at that remark and it dawned on him, he was right Redin is his savior; even if Redin didn't know it due to battling his own demons. Well Ray made up his mind, they would save each other, someway, somehow things were going to get better for them.
But Ray forgot that things have to get worse before they can get better.
