Redin's P.O.V.
Later that day Redin knew that he would see Ray because they needed to work on their project, the only set back was it was almost dark out. He was itching to find out what happened in that office. At that moment Red wished that he had the guy's number, so when the grandfather clock in the front hallway chimed out seven o'clock he decided that he was done waiting and went up to his room to play his guitar. Halfway through playing the song Carrion by Parkway Drive he heard the sound of the front door opening and his dad's footsteps on the tile floor a second later. That's the thing about living with someone for years; you begin to recognize the sounds they make.
Near the end of the song Red began to softly sing one of his favorite parts to the song, "Drowning from the inside out. My love I left, my heart I left."
Even though the vocals in the actual song would be considered growling, Red decided to just keep it as clean vocals for once.
A moment later a quiet voice shocked him out of his musical daze as it spoke, "Wow you're actually pretty good at that."
Red immediately quieted and dropped the hand that had been strumming his guitar strings. He peered up to see Ray standing in his doorway with a tiny smile.
"Why'd you stop?" He questioned with a raised eyebrow.
Red sat his guitar back in its stand saying, "I don't usually play for other people."
"You should, it sounds fantastic."
Red just shook his head muttering, "Well I don't plan on it."
He noticed Ray's face fall slightly, but he quickly covered it up. "Alright then, well are you feeling up to working on our project?"
Redin couldn't help but to feel suspicious over Ray's overly happy behavior. It didn't make sense for someone that had been beaten up and their father to act so uncaring about it. So Red came to the conclusion that the other boy was faking, and honestly not doing a very good job at it.
"So what happened to you today after you left the office? Did you ditch?" Red asked as he started heading downstairs, making sure that Ray was following.
Ray simply nodded, making no eye contact with the boy beside him. There was something else he wasn't telling Red and for some reason that really bugged him.
"So are you gonna tell me why?"
"Why are you being so pushy?" Ray snapped and Red had to fight back grinning, he didn't really understand why he liked getting under the boy's skin so much.
Red shrugged, "Just figured I should ask, I'm assuming that's what friends do when the other is clearly upset."
Ray nearly ran into the wall stuttering, "W-We're friends now?"
"Only if you want to be." Red replied, not even glancing back at Ray as he went to grab the mouse's cage.
"Well okay I guess we are."
Redin gave him a tiny smile when they sat down at the table, placing the cage between them. He decided to be a pest one more time by asking, "Are you gonna tell me now or later?"
Ray let out a dry laugh, seeming to catch on to Redin's overbearing sense of humor, "Well I guess I could. "
Red's response was to fold his hands under his chin and to give the other boy his undivided attention. He realized that he must look strange because of the face Ray makes at him and he tries to remind himself that this isn't Ashlyn he's dealing with right now. The boy sitting across from him really has no clue who he actually is and what he's like, maybe the friendship thing was a bad idea. Redin understands that he can't take that back now and he doesn't really want to. So he chuckles and drops his hands from his face.
