As I drove back home, the only thing in my mind was Nadine. How to contact her, where I could possibly see or find her, if her parents or friends would even talk to me. A lot, actually.

I parked my car in front of the house and went inside, sighing. Tears threatened to fall but I managed to keep them in.

Gaea, from upstairs, went to me and hugged me. "I'm sorry I left you earlier without saying goodbye, I was just-" I was cut short by her telling me it's okay. "I know you never stopped loving her, and though you were pretending that you really moved on, I can see it in your eyes that you really haven't. It's okay, James. I won't even try to make you stay with me. If happy is her, I'm happy for you."

I wiped my tears and continued sobbing. "How can I be happy when my happiness is gone? I'm sorry Gaea. I loved you. I really did."

"You didn't love me, James. You liked me. But you didn't like me enough to love me. I understand that. I couldn't compete with someone like Nadine. I understand. Thank you for the short time that we spent together, I will surely treasure those."

What she said surprised me. She knew things that I myself didn't know. She was right. I just liked her, but not enough for me to love her.

Who are we kidding? It's Nadine. It has always been Nadine.

It will always be Nadine.
