The flight home was long. Ryder put on his headphones blasting his music, falling asleep shortly after. Alofa elbowed him softly to wake him but he didn't move. She nudged him harder jolting him awake. He glared at her pulling his headphones out. She leaned in to whisper.
Alofa- "Your music is pretty loud."
"So?"
Alofa- "I didn't know you were depressed nor a fan of Celine Dion."
She was trying to surpress her glee.
It took Ryder a second to register what she was on about when he heard Celine Dion's voice belting the Power of Love out of his headphones. Quickly turning the volume down he cleared his throat and mumbled it wasn't his playlist but Alofa looked unconvinced. At that moment the flight attendant walked down the aisle. Slowing down long enough to get Ryder's attention and gracing him with a flirtatious smile, she purposely swayed her hips, looking over to see if Ryder was still watching her and caught Alofa's smirk instead.
Alofa- "Do women always throw themselves at you?"
"Yes"
Alofa sat quietly filing the information away.
Alofa- "Do you fall for it?"
"Depends."
Alofa- "On what?"
"On the woman doing it."
Just then a passenger passed their seat. He glanced at Alofa and smiled. Ryder sat up straight eyeing the guy til he passed. He didn't like it. A moment later the same guy walked past to go to his seat. He stopped next to Ryder's chair looking at Alofa. She seemed nervous under the strangers bold stare.
"Sorry to be Random but your really pretty.. Are you visiting family in Sydney?"
"Hey random, thanks for the compliment. My wife and I will be visiting fams. Did you w'na join?"
"Sorry. I didn't see a ring on her finger"
"And I'm what? Invisible? My wife doesn't need her ring. My presence should be enough to show she's taken, go take your seat big boy before my fist randomly decides to visit your face."
Ryder watched the idiot rush back to his seat. His mood turning foul. Alofa remained silent. The flight attendant passed by their seat again. Alofa leaned over Ryder to grab her attention.
Alofa- "Excuse me? Hi, would you be a dear and get my husband some water for his headache. He seems to be a touch grouchy from his nap."
The flight attendant smiled tightly at Ryder and Alofa and went to grab their water.
"You sound jealous wife."
Alofa- "Not at all husband. I thought you needed a glass to cool your green head obviously poking out... Okay okay enough baiting each other. What is it g'na be like when we get there? Do you live with your parents?"
"No I own my own house. You'll like it."
Alofa- "Are you rich or something?"
"No, just smart with my money. Why? Are you a gold digger?"
Alofa- "How'd you know?"
Ryder stared blankly at his wife who tried and failed to crack a joke.
"Your funny."
Alofa- "You think so?"
"No"
Alofa- "Damn don't smile too much. You might get wrinkles for showing happiness"
"I have a feeling your g'na love Sydney. You miss your dad?"
