ALOFA'S POV

Watching Ryders retreating back as he left the house left Alofa feeling empty inside. She didn't know how the day turned sour so bad. She was still reeling from the shock of his parents arrival at the front door with Iosua behind them. She was happy to see him but she knew Ryder took a instant dislike to Iosua believing they dated. Iosua was Alofa's rock during her life in Samoa caring for father. She loved him like an older brother though she knew he always hoped for something more between them. Alofa was a married woman even if her husband was a complete stranger to her. She wasn't one to ignore her vows no matter how young and naive she was at the time she spoke them. Hearing that Iosua was taking up his calling made Alofa proud and happy that he knew what he wanted for his life. She knew the moment something felt wrong when she walked in carrying the food to see the look on Ryder's face. What she couldn't understand was the animosity his father had towards him. It was the first time Alofa ever saw his father lose his temper. He was always a kindhearted man to others. It seemed to her it didn't extend towards his own son which saddened her. There was a lot of hurt in her husband's family that needed to be healed but she knew no one could ever do that but her husband's father. Didn't he see what a kind and respectful man his son is? Alofa learnt more about her husband this afternoon from the girls. At first she was envious towards Oriana. Alofa felt as though she paled next to Oriana and Ria. They were both stunning. It wasn't long until Alofa's envy turned to respect. They told her how they met their husbands. Ria spoke of her dearly departed sister who was married to Nathaniel and the sacrifices she made to fight for her God kid's Noah and Niva. It was hard for Alofa to believe that they had a hard and rocky road getting their husbands but it gave Alofa comfort that she wasn't the only one running a confusing race with her own husband. Oriana's voice when she spoke of Ryder was always filled with joy and laughter as the girls took turns telling Alofa one tale after another of the many women and their antics to get Ryder's attention. Alofa asked if they ever get jealous when women checked out their husbands who were very attractive men. They then took turns outing on each other and their jealous rages they would have when it happened. Alofa sheepishly admitted how she thought Noah was Ryder's son in Sa and how she wanted to punch him when Noah said he had younger sisters and the embarrassment she felt when Ryder corrected her. The girls and Alofa never laughed so much, her sides hurt. She already saw the girls like her sisters and they welcomed her humbling Alofa to have been placed amongst great company. She came home with a new outlook on her husband but the thing that worried her most of the afternoon was what Ryder said before he left. When she confessed to the girls what Ryder wanted from her, they gave her the run down as best they could but it only made Alofa blush more.

The dinner was finished in stilted conversation between the men. Alofa didn't know how to recover from it. She wanted it over so she could be alone to think. Seeing a girls name pop up on Ryder's phone made Alofa want to cry. She wondered if he was gone to meet that woman and spend the night with her. She forced herself not to think about it knowing it would drive her insane. Iosua tried to pull her into a conversation but Alofa wasn't in the mood. A couple hours later, they finally departed. Alofa used her pent up energy to clean. When that was done, she paced around the house. She stopped in front of a door that had a latch on it. It wasn't locked with a key but Alofa figured the latch was enough warning for anyone not to enter. She pulled the latch back and slowly opened the door. It looked like a study room. She found the light switch and flicked it on. It was like a dream come true for her. Covering all four walls from floor to ceiling were built in bookshelves. It was a library with a thick mahogany desk in front of the window covered with picture frames. Alofa cautiously made her way around the desk to see the photos. It was all pictures of a smiling Ryder and another guy, and photo's of what looked to be his grandparent's. She picked up a frame of Ryder with a guy. His arm around Ryder's shoulder. Both laughing. He was the splitting image of Ryder only Ryder was more physically built and covered in tattoos whereas the other guy looked like a sainted version of Ryder. There was no mistaking the other guy was his brother Genesis. they were identical twins. The room looked to be her husbands little sanctuary. Behind the desk was a long table aligned with jack Daniel and Johnny walker bottles and a single glass. Alofa couldn't begin to imagine the kind of burden her husband was carrying around. She placed the frame back and walked out placing the latch back on the door. She went upstairs and got ready for bed not knowing what else to do. She fell asleep expecting Ryder to be there when she woke up only to be disappointed. She didn't want to keep running to the girls with her problems so she kept her mind busy exploring the house. By the 5th day, there was still no signs of her husband. Alofa's worry intensified that she couldn't take it anymore. She dialed Oriana who put her husband Dommie on the phone who seemed surprised by her question. He told her the boy's haven't been with him in days thinking he was with Alofa so they didn't want to disturb. Alofa's phone call put Dommie in alert mode. He told Alofa he was sending his wife over to her while he and the boys go search for him. Alofa placed the land line back down and finally let herself cry.
