Age of the Dead

Figuring out

         We walk for about 15 minutes. When we are walking through a field with a dirt road through the middle. I see a long gravel driveway with a large White House at the end. I hear some one call my name.
     "Steph!" I turn and it takes a moment for me to notice it is Julie jogging up to me from the back of the group.
      "Hey" she says breathlessly. I smile.
      "I have a serious question."
      "And that is?" I ask. She looks around and takes a breath before asking,
      "Is this the end of the world?" I stair into her eyes for a minute, thinking of what to say.
      "Yes." I say and Julie looks stunned, like she wasn't expecting me to say that.
      "But" I say "We are not going let it be. We will fight for this world. We will not let it go down with some undead rotting things." She smiles and I walk ahead. As we get to the large house Brandon slowly steps up the stairs In front of his grandmothers house. He walks with the rest of us following single file.  Brandon, Mason, Me, Luke, Eliot then Julie. I hear a scream along with a sobbing sound. I push past Mason and run into what I think would be the living room. My heart skips a beat as I see a body laying on the ground with a rotter eating at its abdomen. The woman on the ground is most likely Brandon's grandmother. I put my had on his shoulder to try to comfort him. The rotter turns its head and I see blood all over its mouth. I cringe as I breathe in smelling the dead thick air. The corpse stands and walks toward me. My turn to kill I think I left my back pack at the bus, if I hadn't I would take out a pencil and stab it. Instead I see a table with a plate fork and knife on it.  I grab the knife and put my other hand on the rotters shoulder. I plunge the knife as deep as I could into its brain. It falls limp onto the ground. "Grugggg" "what?" I think "I thought I killed it?" I looked down. It was dead. I turned around and I see a rotter right in front of my face. Then I see someone push the rotter into the ground. They kick its face into the floor. I hear somebody squeak. I think it must be Brandon. I realize it was Luke. Luke just saved me. I feel my cheeks get warm. Luke smiles as he says  "Returned the favor." making me remember I sort of saved him back at the bus. I walk over to Brandon realizing he just watched his grandmother get eaten and her face get kicked in. I hear a beeping noise. Not an alarm beeping, but when there is a tornado warning the long low beeping noise you would hear on the radio that was the noise I was hearing. I walked through to the TV room and I see it was left on. The woman on the TV begins to speak.

   "What is this strange epidemic going around the world. There is the possibility we may never know. Scientists have kept the virus contained for weeks until three days ago when one of them got out in Redding Pennsylvania. Already there are about 5,000 known people with this epidemic and it is spreading fast and it will continue to because this is an air born virus. Most of you already have it. It does not affect you while you are alive." The woman takes a long deep breath and looks down nervously, looks back up and she says.

"This is going to sound like a movie, but when you die it re-sparks the brain stem igniting parts of your brain without memories and emotions." She didn't mention that you begin to eat humans. "Yoiu come alive again. In a new form not remembering who you were, what you loved. Anything." She looks off camera and says "Huh? What NO!" The screen gets fuzzy then goes black. Silence then falls across the room like a winter blanket.
