This is an entry for TheOtakuNerd 's contest. I cannot possibly express in words how much fun I had with this contest entry! Anywho, it is inspired by my birthstone, aquamarine, and my Greek zodiac, Aries. Aquamarine is a blue stone, which you can see in this mermaid's tail, and her horns as well. Something else I noticed about aquamarine that I wanted to incorporate into this drawing is that when held up to light, the stone has a crap ton of other really pretty colors aside from blue, so I put those other colors into the bottom of the tail. Now, the zodiac Aries is associated with the ram, which has beautiful twisted horns. So I gave my mermaid horns! Yay! Aries is also associated with Mars, the god of war in Roman culture, so I gave her minimal armor and a spear. I'm not sure if you can see this next part, but I gave her a slightly aggressive facial expression to go along with the fierce attitude of an Aries. I'm not sure why I gave her darkish gray skin. It just seemed appropriate for this specific OC. Her name is Digladiari, which roughly translates to "fighter" in Latin.
