Prologue Part 2
ALICIA'S POV
My heart pounded in my chest as I held tightly to the hand of Lindsay Prescott. The cameras were rolling and I tried my hardest to maintain my composure even though I was sweating through my golden glittery dress and my curled hair was nearly sticking to my head.
“Lindsay Prescott…” my breath quickened as the host said her name. He paused for dramatic effect and then continued, “You are…SAFE. Congratulations! I’m sorry Alicia, you will be going home.”
I stood there contemplating what was going on. He just said that I was going home. My stomach dropped and I felt like throwing up. Before I knew it, Lindsay was hugging me with relief clearly evident on her face and tears were falling from my eyes without my control. The host handed me the microphone to sing my last song before leaving. I quickly regained control of my spinning head and took a deep breath before singing One Step At A Time by Jordin Sparks.
As I sang the words of the song I couldn’t help but let the tears fall from my face. All my hard work just went down the drain. My dreams shattered and my heart broken all in one night. Everything I’ve ever hoped for….gone.
I finished the song and everyone came and hugged me. The other person who looked just as broken as I was came and hugged me tighter and longer than everyone else. Liam just stood there whispering comforting things into my ear, even though it didn’t make my heart hurt any less. It didn’t matter anymore. Nothing could hurt more than what was happening now.
LIAM'S POV
My heart dropped when the host said that Alicia would be leaving. I would be on X-Factor without her. After all of her work to get where she is, she is going home while Lindsay Prescott would stay. I was sad for her. If there were one person that deserves this, it would be her.
When she finished singing her last song perfect as always, everyone ran up to hug her. Mostly everyone there liked her. But I made sure to hug her longer than the rest of them. She must feel so broken. I wish I were able to take away that pain I know she must be feeling. But all I could do was stand there and hug her, willing the pain to go away.

LIAM'S POV
This was it. It was the once in a lifetime chance. Now that X-Factor was done, Simon Cowell asked me and four other boys, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan, to be in a band. We would call it One Direction. It was the only name we could agree on.
The creators of X-Factor thought it would be a good idea to combine all five of our voices for the show. That worked out great, even though we didn’t win. Now someone wanted to sign us and make us international stars. I just had to sign a paper that said I was in the band. So I did. Alicia would understand. She would do the exact same thing if she were in my shoes.
ALICIA'S POV
I got home and collapsed on my bed, completely spent from the day I just had. I had a part time job at the Rapha CC, a quaint and busy coffee shop in my town. The manager was sick today, so I was stuck taking orders and making all the drinks alone because of course my coworker was just going to sit in the back pretending to restock items, but really read his weird PlayBoy magazine.
I just finished taking a shower and slipping on my favorite All Time Low sweater and some sweatpants. I finished making dinner when I heard the buzzer ring notifying that someone was trying to call my apartment. I buzzed whoever it was in and opened my door.
Of course it was Liam standing there looking great as usual with his messy brownish-blonde curly hair. He had a huge smile plastered on his face. I knew that smile; it meant he had good news. I let him in and he collapsed on the couch.
