ALICIA'S POV
I still had to get used to all the paparazzi following me around. I’ve been in California for less than 4 months and I still haven’t gotten used to the warm LA weather yet. I was so glad to move here. After what happened a year and a half ago with my dad, I just wanted to get away from England as soon as possible.
I sat in my penthouse apartment reading People magazine. My maid was in the other room vacuuming like her life depended on it. Her name was Rosita, Rosie for short, and she was a real sweetheart. She’s the only true friend I have here so far, so I treat her right and invited her to live in the guest room in exchange for a clean flat of course.
As I flipped through the magazine, I happened to stumble upon a One Direction article. It was a basic biography of their lives. I read all about Niall and his life in Ireland as a child, Zayn and his addiction to cigarettes, Harry and his childhood band, and Louis and where he grew up. Blah, blah, blah. Nothing I haven’t heard or cared about before. What made me stop was reading Liam’s biography. I narrowed my eyes as I read it over again, thinking I misread something.
People magazine usually told the truth about stars, so that must mean Liam told them this little lie. The article talked about his kidney disorder as a child, some things about his goal to be a track star if singing didn’t work out, and life as a child. This information wasn’t wrong and the pictures were the real him, but it was what wasn’t in the pictures that made me mad. I instantly recognized every single picture because I was supposed to be in them.
Instead, I was cropped out until it was only him. The article didn’t mention me at all. I was his past. I was the one that helped his mom get him through. I helped him survive. I even did some medical things when I was a kid so I could help him through his 39 medical shots every day. Well screw him too.
I threw the magazine in the trash and went to my master bedroom. I loved how huge it was and fit perfectly to everything I love.
My plush, almost $4,000 bed had a light purple bedspread, two beautiful white lamps rested on the bedside tables, one on either side of the bed. There was a sixty inch plasma screen television directly in front of the bed. The floors were a dark mahogany wood color and a cute little chandelier hung from the ceiling. The shower was directly adjacent to the room behind an acrylic glass wall.
I plopped on the bed just as my phone’s We Own It ringtone went off. I answered it and heard Kelly’s voice on the other side.
Kelly sounded breathless, like she was walking briskly, or maybe working out, “Hey Ali, sorry for the really sudden call. I got you a last minute front row seat at the VMAs tonight. You have to be there in 4 hours for picture taking and all that. This is really great publicity for you, especially in your early fame stages. I’ll send your stylist over to your penthouse within the next half hour. So shower and get ready.”
After I got over the initial shock of actually going to my first VMAs appearance and the hurried tone of her voice, I replied, “Sure thing. I’ll be ready.”
Kelly said again, “Great! See you at 5 pm sharp. Please don’t be late!” With that she hung up.
I sighed and glanced over at the People magazine lying in the trash. I rolled my eyes as I saw Liam’s face on the cover and got up to take a shower.
4 hours later
I looked in the mirror and could hardly recognize the woman that looked back at me. I was dressed in an ocean blue one shoulder silk chiffon dress, Christian Louboutin strappy sandals, and a white and gold shoulder bag. My hair was curled down past my shoulders to my mid-back. My stylist gave me a few spritz of Moschino perfume and put deep blue eyeshadow and yellow eye shadow over my eyes.
