Steve walked into the Avengers meeting room to find everyone already there. All except Tony.

Steve looked over at Fury. "Where's Tony?"

Fury raised an eyebrow. "We were hoping you could tell us that."

Steve shrugged. He hadn't seen or spoken to Tony in two days. At least, not after their argument the week before. "Maybe he should sit this one out anyway. I don't think he's sleeping well. Might be a liability in the field."

Natasha looked confused as to why Steve was bashing Tony, but didn't mention it. "So should we call in a replacement?"

Fury shook his head. "No. I've got too many agents elsewhere. You all will have to do without him today. Try to make this one quick. You are dismissed."

The whole time they were on the mission, Steve's mind was on Tony. Even when they weren't talking, it wasn't like Tony to ditch a mission. When Steve got back home, he went down to the lab, but found the door locked. He banged on it, but no one answered. Finally, he decided to use the override code.

The lights in the lab were dimmed and all of Tony's work was laying on the desk, but Tony wasn't there. Steve looked over by the bathroom and finally walked over to the hot rod. It had an empty bottle of vodka in the front seat. When Steve leaned over to pick it up, he saw Tony lying on the floor, a bottle shattered in his hand.

Steve ran over to Tony, feeling a painful pang in his chest. "Oh my God, Tony wake up!" Steve patted his cheeks and felt for his pulse. He still had a pulse, but barely.

"C'mon Stark, please wake up!" Steve yelled, calling Tony again and again to no avail. He took out his phone and called 911.

"911, what is your emergency?"

"I just found Tony unconscious. I can't get him to wake up."

"OK Sir, do you know what happened?"

"No...um but I think he's been drinking."

"Ok. Have you felt for a pulse?"

"Yes ma'am, he has a pulse."

"OK Sir I'm sending the paramedics your way. Could I get your name please Sir?"

"Steve Rogers."

"O-OK. And I guessing you're calling about Tony Stark?"

"Yes Ma'am. Do you know how soon the ambulance will be here?"

"It shouldn't take over 3 minutes. Would you like me to stay on the phone till they arrive?"

"Yes thank you," Steve said, holding back all emotion. He took Tony's phone from his pocket and texted the rest of the avengers. He got off of his knees to sit on the floor when he felt something underneath him and picked it up. "Oh my God," Steve exclaimed.

"Mr. Rogers, what's the problem?" The 911 operator said.

Steve's voice shook a little. "I just found a gun on the floor."

Just then, the paramedics rushed in, followed by the other Avengers. Steve backed up as they put Tony on the gurney and rolled him out.

Natasha ran over to Steve and wrapped her arms around him. Steve, in an effort not to cry, wouldn't look at her. "It's okay, Steve. Tony will be just fine, you'll see." Clint, Bruce, and Thor followed the paramedics out, leaving only Steve and Natasha in the room.

Steve pulled away from Tasha and pointed at the gun which was still lying on the floor. "That was next to him."

Natasha looked at the gun and then back at the soldier. "Steve...," she started.

"What if he was trying to...to...," Steve couldn't finish, a tear escaping his eyes only to be wiped away. "It's my fault. I should've just apologized. I should've at least checked on him or something."

Natasha shook her head and put a hand on Steve's cheek. "It's not your fault."
