"He's so pale. He looks like a ghost."

"He looks smaller, has he been losing weight?"

"Maybe."

"Those bags under his eyes. Tony must not have been sleeping well."

Tony could hear familiar voices speaking around him, like some kind of bad dream.

"Do you think this will affect his position on the team?"

"Depends on what he was planning to use that gun for."

"Was there really a gun on the scene? He doesn't seem like the type to commit suicide."

"Stooop," he said, the words barely escaping his lips.

"Did he say something?"

"Mr. Stark? Are you awake sir?" This voice sounded unfamiliar to him so he tried to open his eyes.

"I'm awake I think," he mumbled, shielding his eyes from what he thought was a bright light.

Natasha took hold of his wrist. "Tony, what happened?"

He sat up. "Why did you bring me here? I hate hospitals."

Tony looked over at the people in his room. Clint, Bruce, Thor, Maria, Pepper... "Where's Steve?"

"He's at home," Clint said.

Tony frowned. "But...why?"

Natasha let go of Tony's wrist. "He went to shower. He was here all night whilst the rest of us slept at home." Her face was red with anger. "Why in hell would you do that Tony? Don't you know that we care about you?"

Tony looked at her confused. "What do you think I did?"

"Didn't you mix prescription drugs and alcohol? Didn't you try t-"

"Natasha not now," Bruce scolded.

"No I want the truth!" She turned to Tony. "Were you trying to commit suicide?"

Tony looked shocked as he glanced at everyone in the room. "N-No I-I didn't. I wouldn't do that, I don't plan on it." He looked at how no one met his gaze. "You guys don't believe me, do you?"

Silence.

Tony sighed. "I swear I can explain myself."

"Yea?" Pepper asked.

Tony nodded.

"Well explain the drugs and the gun! Why in the world was there a gun lying close to you?" Natasha yelled, frustrated.

Tony glanced at all the people staring at him and sighed. "I wasn't trying to kill myself you guys. I drink when I'm stressed, everyone here knows that." He looked at Pepper and Natasha. "Recently, my doctor prescribed me some sleeping pills. I honestly forgot I'd taken them when I started drinking. The last I remember, the gun was somewhere near me whilst I was working so it had nothing to do with me passing out. I'm sorry I worried you guys."

The visitors glanced each other before collectively saying, "We forgive you."

Natasha sighed. "Well, just don't do it again." She, Maria, and Clint left after saying goodbye. Bruce, Thor, and Pepper eventually left hours later, leaving Tony alone.

Tony's mind drifted to Steve. Where could he be? Tony thought he would've come back by then, but the soldier was no where to be found. He eventually found himself falling asleep.

::: :::

Steve felt guilty.

It was all his fault. He was the team leader. He should've checked up on Tony. Instead, he ignored him and now he was in the hospital.

Steve pushed through his guilt and decided to go back to the hospital. The sun was already setting, but he felt he owed Tony an apology.

When he reached Tony's room, the doctor was walking out. "Sir, he's asleep right now. We are currently running blood tests so I'll be back."

Steve nodded and walked into the hospital room. Sure enough, Tony seemed to be totally asleep. Steve walked over and sat on the chair by the window. It was completely dark outside.

"You came back?" A sleepy voice asked.

Steve turned to look at Tony, whose red eyes stared back at him. "Yea of course I did. I thought you were asleep."

Tony sat up. "I was, but apparently I'm a light sleeper."

Steve smiled slightly. "Well I'm glad your brain still works."

Tony shrugged. "I guess."

Steve looked for a way to start his apology. "Look, Tony....I um,...I need to...uh.."

Tony frowned. "Does your brain still work?"

Steve laughed nervously. "Yea um...I just need to...uh-"

"Spit it out Rogers!"

Steve looked at Tony solemnly. "Tony, I'm sorry."

Tony was taken aback. After a few moments of silence, Tony spoke up. "What?"

Steve sighed. "I was a jerk to you last week. And on top of that, I haven't spoken to you in days. I didn't check on you. I didn't even think about how what I said could have affected you. Maybe if I'd stopped by the lab earlier, you wouldn't be in the hospital today."

Tony held up a hand. "Okay wait a second. Are you apologizing to me?"

Steve nodded. "Yes Tony. I'm the Captain of our team. I should know better than to harp on someone after a mission. I was out of place and I'm sorry."

There were a few moments of silence before Tony spoke up. "Well, I'll accept your apology, mostly because this is rare and I doubt it will ever happen again."

Steve frowned. "Tony, I've apologized to you be-"

Tony waved a hand. "Regardless, you don't have to apologize. I'm fine. As far as I remember, I don't think I was drinking because of what happened between us. I think I was just ....stressed? Yea..probably that."

Steve sighed. "You don't remember what happened yesterday?"

Tony shook his head. "No, it's all fuzzy."

Steve nodded. "So there's still a possibility it was my fault?"

Tony shook his head. "Steve..."

"No, I know it was my fault." Steve stood up. "I was the last person to see you after our argument, which was last week! I should've checked you but I didn't! Now you're here." Steve shook his head. "You weren't breathing when I found you. I thought you were dead."

Tony felt guilty for scaring his friends. Especially Steve. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again."

Steve sat back down. "Yea, I'll make sure of it."
