Another one shot that started off really short, and became something like 3000 words. Oops. Inspired by the song Carousel by Melanie Martinez.

And it's all fun and games
Until somebody falls in love
But you've already bought a ticket
And there's no turning back nowExplosions of bright pink, blue and green shattered like glass in the night sky, the colours sparkling away until the darkness ate up the remains. A chorus of oh's sounded softly before a second volley of fireworks took their place with a series of loud bangs. Colour awed the audience and kept them captivated.
From the top of the ferris wheel, the magnificent pyrotechnics were up close and personal. The remnants of a hot pink spark landed on the very top compartment's glass window, its crackling unheard amongst the shouts and cheers of the carnival below as it slowly fizzled out into orange and black. Lucy watched the ember die with wide brown eyes turned gold in the fireworks light.
Pressing her face up against the glass, she watched the motion of itsy bitsy people gathered down below, their face surely as bright and happy as hers. They looked so small from so high up; like dolls. The sweet, cool air stole away her breath on the gentle wind of 20 meters up.
'I love the ferris wheel!' Levy declared. She tugged on Lucy's arm and pulled her back around onto her seat.
Lucy giggled cheerily with a beam wider than the entire black sky. A firework exploded on Levy's side of the compartment and they both turned to watch and gasp in excitement. Levy chuckled when a strand of blue hair flopped down in front of her eyes, and she reached up to push it back, turning back to other girl with a wide eyed smile. Lucy returned it.
'It's the best!' she agreed.
Levy peeked down the side of the glass, 'Aw, look! We're going down!'
The blonde girl mimicked the gesture, feeling the sudden, exhilarating drop in her stomach as their descent began. In the compartment below theirs, three girls and a boy were looking up, waving towards them cheerily. Lucy waved her hand wildly at the three whiteheads and the brunette.
'I think we should go on the carousel next,' Lucy suggested brightly, tossing a glance over her shoulder at the bluenette in her compartment.
Levy clapped her hands, 'Yes! I love the carousel!'
Lucy nodded and laughed, 'It's the best!'
The slow moving machinery wound its way around as people piled on and off the compartments, Lucy and Levy cheering and giggling uncontrollably as they got closer to the ground. The fireworks got further and further away.
'That was so much fun!' Levy gushed, jumping off their compartment and onto the platform.
'It was so much fun!' Lucy's face almost hurt with the intensity of her smile.
They were on their way to the carousel, skipping down the concrete paths. Carnival goers bumped into them and they all burst into infectious laughter that remained contained in a bubble around them, even as they walked away. The atmosphere was a fun time paradise of confectionary, screams and cheers.
Lucy breathed in deeply, tasting the traces of popcorn in the air. The multiple musical melodies that played out from each of the different rides combined together a mayhemic carnival composition.
Past the haunted house and the dodgem cars, the carousel stood out in bright red and gold. Magnificent multicoloured steeds reared their majestic heads and tossed their manes with pride as their jockeys yelled in exhilaration. Round and round, the horses on the carousel chased each other in an never ending game of catch up. A melodic, upbeat tune echoed from the depths of the machinery.
