[ALEX]

YOU KNOW HOW little you actually care about life when days start to bleed together until everything just feels like a blur of sleep, school and sleep again (with snack breaks in between, of course).

Before Emette, my days were one boring 24 hours after another but he turned out to be really fun to hang out with in and between classes, and since he'd spent his whole life in Seacrest, he was able to give me a proper tour of the shitty backwoods town in the days that followed.

I only called Seacrest shitty because I was uprooted and relocated without my permission, though.

In reality, it was a quiet and fairly large suburban town with a population of about 15,000 people and all the ones I'd met since my very first day were just so kind and pleasant that it came off somewhat insincere; like they were up to something.

It almost felt like I was living in a parallel universe where nothing bad ever happened and everyone lives in harmony, joining hands and singing kumbaya to the heavens.

It was nothing like Satin Ridge, that's for sure and while I should maybe be grateful for their hospitality, it just didn't sit right with me.

I've seen Midsommar.

A few things I've noticed about Seacrest still have me scratching my head.

Firstly, they were a little behind, technologically speaking, because everyone still used those bulky first gen smart phones and there was no 5G.

I don't think what they have can even be considered 2G, since my phone doesn't get service except for whenever I stand out on the balcony over the garden, where the signal just barely works. My room is almost an absolute dead zone sometimes, which almost always caused my messages with Karma to be delayed (I recently figured out The WiFi works best in the living room).

Also, Emette said everything shuts down at midnight. Like, everything.
Outside of Hospitals, not a single shop would be open, not even a gas station or 7-Eleven (also I've seen no fast food places in sight since I got here).

Plus, everyone calls Mom Luna now and I'm really starting to feel like we landed in an actual murder cult because yesterday two random women came up to me and they were practically foaming at the mouth, gushing about how happy they were for "Alpha" Jackson and their Luna.

There had to be more than meets the eye when it came down to it, still, I was too distracted to investigate.

Before I even noticed, a week had already passed since I moved to Seacrest and made friends with Emette.
