The trio entered the big area.
-Wow! I didn't expect it to be this big!- Christina claimed in maze. The area was really big: The court was three times larger than the one at school, and the ceiling seemed endless. It could properly fit 300 viewers.
-It must be big, the court is one of the most important ones in the city, built in 1989 and renovated only last year,-Joe explained.
-I had never been here before, though... How about you Jacquline?
-Well, I...
Flashback to childhood
-So cupcake, are you ready to attend your first basketball lessons?
-Yes pap, I can't wait! Do you think the teacher will like me? Will there be other little girls like me? Will they like me? Will it be hard to score baskets?-a young Jacquline said, full of exitment.
-Don't you worry cupcake, you will do just fine. Now, go and have fun.
-I will daddy,-she answered, kissing her dad goodbye.
Wow, this is huge.... are you sure the ceiling won't fall over me? Cause if it did, I would have to miss school and practice, and I won't want the others to pass by me! That must be the teacher.... I'll go meet her!
The 10-year-old Jacquline, having her hair put on two cute short piggy tails, wearing a neat pair of Barbie sportclothes. Yes, they were pink, if you were wondering.
-Hello miss, my name is Jacqueline, but you can call me Jackie, and my date signed me up today!-she said in a cherish voice.
-Well welcome Jackie, would you like to join the others?-the teacher replied softly.
-Sure!-she said enthusiasticly, while running towards a group of other kids.
-Hi, I'm Jackie!-she greeted, smiling broadly.
-Jackie? What kind of name is that?-a guy wearing baggy pants asked rudely.
-Yeah, and who wears Barbie clothes when on basketball practise?-his chubby friend supported.
-Well, what's wrong with wearing Barbie clothes? And what's wrong with my name?
-Here's the thing, piggy tail, you are too girly to play basketball,- the taller bully said.
-Yeah, an ironed, pinkish, smart skirt like you doesn't belong here...
The bullies seemed at least 2 years older than Jacquline, and everyone seemed to fear them. It was pretty harsh for her to swallow. She started to sob and cry, running outside the building. Shortly her father's car showed up.
-What's wrong cupcake?-he asked in a soothing voice.
-I...sniff...I just...sniff...don't like basketball anymore...sniff...
-But you were so enthusiastic about it before, what happened?-he was now worried. His daughter loved basketball more than dolls. It has always been this way.
-I just...sniff...I just don't think I can...sniff...be any good at something I...sniff...hate,-she answered. There was emptiness in her eyes, but her father supported her anyway. Neither he nor her mother liked the fact their daughter played basketball more than she read, so they had never been fully ok with this. It was the exact arena 16-year-old Jacquline was standing now.
Reality call
-No, I've never been here neither...,-Jacquline answered while smiling slightly.
