Purpose is a strong word. When we are young we don't use it as much because we are able to carry out tasks with ease and can help society due to our energetic and youthful bodies. For the older generation there purpose starts to fade due to the realization that there bodies are no longer compatible with everyday tasks.
Youthful minds think constantly about the future. Elderly minds think constantly of the past. The comparison there is a big one. When you think ahead usually your emotion is full of aspiration and ambition, while looking back usually leads to regret to things you haven't done. Elderly people loose value in society because the word "Old" gives off poor connotations, and indirectly ruptures there self confidence.
The phrase "Enjoy it while your young" or many phrases similar seem important. While im 18, im considered young and able. When i get old, society will view me as fragile and vulnerable. Elderly people have to try so hard to seem independent just so they sustain a status in the world. This should not have to be the case.
In my eyes Elderly people are very valuable. They have a vast range of knowledge and wisdom due to there immense experience of life. Society does not see this at first glance and I hope things change in the future.
Overall Youthful members of society are usually to complacent towards the older generation. Looking after the Elderly should be a mark of respect and not a chore. When your young you need to soak up every item of society because as you age you begin to loose acceptance.
