Liam's POV

When we turn down the dirt road leading to whatever this is, chills run up my spine. Dirt roads lead to bad things and bad things lead to even worst things. I've seen too many horror films to know what's bound to come.

This place is out in the middle of nowhere. Why would Adam pick here? Oh, right! He's a murderer. Horror Movie 101 here, guys.

The deputy's cruiser comes to a stop in front of a house, maybe even a cabin. The two of them get out of the car as I put my truck in park. I watch them as they look around the area, suspiciously, and I wonder what the hell they're thinking. I wonder if I should get out and go with them.

I climb out, shutting my door quietly. I look around. I spot a car that looks awfully familiar and that's when it hits me. It's Adam's car.

She's here.

She's actually here.

"Sir," I whisper, loudly. I look back and forth between the car and him until he turns back to look at me as if the car is suddenly going to move. "That's his car." I point to the sleek black car parked beyond the trees.

The deputy nods at me when he sees the car and then he turns to the woman. She's already looking back at him as he leans in closer to her to say something low. As the male deputy talks, the woman stares straight at me until he's done then begins walking toward me. My heart rate begins to race, my stomach twisting and turning.

"I need you to stay in your car while we check this place out," the woman tells me, calmly. I let out a small chuckle.

"Are you serious?" I look up from the small woman to look at the rickety old house where the male deputy is standing with his back to us. The woman shifts from one foot to the other, the sticks and leaves under her boots cracking sickeningly.

"I know your girlfriend is in there but-"

"That's exactly why I need to come with you. I need to see her. You have to understand that," I tell her, my voice shaking. She lets out a breath and looks down at her feet.

"We can't have you in there, Liam. I'm very sorry but I need you to stay in your car while we check this out, please."

"I'll be in my car, then," I say with a huff and turn on my heels, walking back to my truck. My own shoes make the same sickening sound that the woman's boots made and I cringe inwardly. Nothing about this place feels right.

When I settle into the driver's seat, I watch the deputies intently. What's their plan? How are they going to get Hailee out of here?

I let out a breath, running my hands through my hair and tugging on the ends. I reach for my phone to check if anyone has messaged or called me. No signal is printed in bold letters in the top left corner of the screen. I slam the phone down in my lap and look back out the windshield. No one's there.

Where did the deputies go? Were they able to get inside? I sit straight up in my seat, spinning around in my seat to look out of all of the car windows. They're gone.

Without realizing it, I find myself shutting the door to my car and begin walking to the front door.

What are you doing? Don't go to the front door. Eleanor's voice blurts out in my head, stopping me in mid-step. I turn back around.

I begin to walk around the side of the house, careful not to make too much noise. My breath hitches when I come across doors peeking out from the ground, leading to what might be a cellar. I examine the wood doors, which don't seem to be locked. I pull on the handle and it doesn't budge. I pull harder on the handle and the doors fly open, causing me to fall backward on my butt, hard.
