Chapter 16

Vin's first day of sophomore year in HS
HARLEY POV

I sit in the car waiting for Vin. She walks out the front door of the apartment building wearing her black high tops, black hoodie, and black skinny jeans. She jumps into the front seat and smiles.

"Alright Ma lets go." She says and turns up the radio to full blast.

Guns n Roses Welcome to the Jungle comes on and we both start screaming along to the lyrics. We laugh and as we arrive at Barb's house she turns down the radio and begins to make herself look good. I hide a smile.

"Not wearing your uniform I see." Barb giggles and and lightly slaps Vin's arm.

"Who needs em' anyway. I can't wear my high tops with a uniform, not to mention they don't come in black." She says showing off her beat up old Chucks.

I smile and begin driving them to school. They talk about their classes and teachers and what Vin got in trouble for last year. Mostly stupid things like drawing in her notebook, wearing her hair a certain way, wearing a hat, and more small things that don't matter.

We keep telling her she can switch to a different school but she refuses to be moved away from Barb. Especially since high school started the two have been inseparable. Barb is Vin's only friend and she isn't very good at talking to people. Sometimes Ivy and me suspect they might be more than friends but we don't say anything.

When we get to the school Vin quickly leans over and kisses my cheek. "Bye Ma. Love ya." I smile as she runs to catch up to Barb who is already at the front doors to the school.

I smile and begin my drive to work. I get there and realize I have the day off. I head to the mall and decide to spend the day there because I have money and why not.

Vin POV

I hide in the corner of the gym trying not to be hit by anymore dodge balls. Even my own team mates were pelting me with them. My teacher seems to turn the other way and ignore the fact that I'm being hit. My fuse is beginning to run short and I can't guarantee the safety of the next person who hits me.

By mid class I'm in the dean's office waiting for Mom to pick me up. I was expecting some lecture about how I shouldn't get into fights but instead I was greeted with a hug. I look at her confused before hugging her back.

      "Do you wanna change schools?" She asks letting go and looking down at me.

      "But I wanna stay with Barb." I say barely holding back tears.

      She doesn't say anything more as we get into the car and begin the drive home. I had been suspended for the rest of the week so I asked my mom to get my work from my teachers.

     When we got home I head straight for my room and lock the door behind me. For a while I lay on my bed and watch some movies, that is until someone knocked on the door.  I walk towards it and open the door slowly.

      Barb was standing on the other side holding a bag of candy, bottle of soda, and a small stuffed animal. "I thought you could use some comfort food and a fluffy friend." She smiles.

     I smile and hug her before pulling her into the room and shutting the door behind her. I smile and  kiss her. "Thank you. It's like you can read my mind."

  I lay back onto the bed and pull her back with me. I curl up and hold onto her. I finally let myself cry. The feel of her embrace let my emotions flow free. She holds me close and kisses the top of my head.

    "Why don't you switch schools? You're mom said she was offering." She says rubbing my back

     "I won't be able to see you anymore if I change schools." I wipe my tears with my sleeve.

     "I'll still come over everyday and sleepover on the weekends. You aren't moving there are plenty of schools in Gotham. Plus we only see each other for a few minutes between classes."

     "But those few minutes light up my day. They are some of the best memories I have. I want to make more of them." I look down then up at her quietly.  Her green eyes calming me.

     She leans in closely and kisses me. The kiss seems to last forever but not long enough. When it ends I pull her back and kiss her again.  To my surprise I hear ma making the same noise she makes when she sees something cute.

      I pull back from the kiss and look over to the door to see her giggling. A deep blush washes over my face and my bury my face in my hands. She giggles again and Barb hides her face in one of my pillows.

   "I'll just go. You two have fun now." She smiles and leaves my room. From the living room I hear Ma talking to Mom. "You owe me twenty bucks! I told you they were together!" I shake my head and look back over to Barb.

     I lift her head and smile at her. I laugh again and then kiss her lightly. "We are never going to live this one down." I kiss her again before pulling her into a hug.

     We both decide that we should go out and face my mothers. We walk out cautiously hand in hand where my mom was sitting on the couch with an arm around Ma. Mom stands and forces me into a hug. " I love you baby girl." I smile

    "Mom you're so embarrassing." I chuckle but hug her back.
