I walked through the halls of Sweet Water High awkwardly. I was the biggest nerd in the entire place! I pushed up my glasses and clenched my books tight to my chest. I had like one friend and half the time she was too embarrassed to even be seen around me. Her name was Poppy and she belonged to the popular group. Also known as the Alphas. They were all tall, tan, rich, and pretty. They all strut around in their fancy high heels while I shuffle along in ballet flats. Lately Poppy had been trying to get me into the Alpha group, but, I just didn't seem to fit in. They would just push me away into my own little table.
I reached math class and sat down at a seat far away from where the Alphas usually sat. There was one girl in the Alpha group that acted differently than all the others. Her nickname was "Zinnia". They all gave themselves flower nicknames ever since Poppy joined them. Zinnia was shy and had a somewhat geeky fashion sense. Cute geeky not nerdy geeky. I had been willing up my courage to talk to her but The Alphas were very intimidating. They could customise a special insult for you in about half a second. I myself had never been insulted by them but I had seen some other people. The Alphas sat down and kept laughing obnoxiously about something. Then I realized. Poppy and Zinnia were both wearing the same outfits. Probably by mistake. I couldn't stand watching my friend being teased. All the shyness inside me disappeared.
"STOP!" I yelled. They looked over shocked but still mad.
"What's the little NERD gunna do 'bout it," One of the Alphas pouted.
"HOW ABOUT YOU JUST SHUT UP DAISY!" Zinnia yelled. She looked so shy but she had a huge voice.
"Well you can have the nerd but you are never coming back to the Alpha pack," Daisy growled. Zinnia and Poppy sat down at the desks next to me. I was happy Poppy and Zinnia were finally over with them. Maybe we could start a little group too! I was getting way ahead of myself.

After school I packed a towel some sunscreen and sunglasses and headed off toward the beach. The sand was so warm but I preferred the water. I jumped in and opened my eyes. The water never really stung my eyes and I could see fine. I had never used goggles in my life. I jumped in and let the water wash all my worries away.I brushed my arms against seaweed growing from the sand. It waved gently and I swam by. I swam deeper and deeper until it got really cold. The seaweed and seashells were all sparkling gold. I climbed onto an island desperate for air. I could hardly breath.
"Shut up Zinnia!"
"What! I just think gold was a better color on you!" I heard voices and lots of giggling. I had finally cought my breath and slowly walked over.
"Wait, I think I hear something," Said one of the voices. I stood up and just walked over with no game plan in mind. I could not see anything or anyone that could of made those noises.
"Hello?" I whispered. I was scared something was just going to jump out at me. I sat down on a rock and played with a flower using my feet. I was so tired even though I hadn't done anything out of the ordinary. The little pink flower turned a seaweed shade of green and grew monstrous vines that wrapped around my legs. No matter how much I screamed and thrashed the plant wouldn't let go. My breathing was getting heavier and heavier until I could hardly breath. The plant was getting looser and looser but burned to a crisp after I could breath normally. I scratched my legs looking down in disgust at my hand. It was covered in green slime. Then I looked at my legs. A green mermaid tail had replaced my tanned legs.
"Zinnia, it's safe!" shouted a familiar voice. Then out stepped Zinnia and Poppy. They quickly lifted up water with their hands and splashed it on themselves growing their own mermaid tail!
"Okay, so we might have been keeping a tiny secret from you..." Zinnia smiled tracing her fingers along the scales of her light pink tail.
"WHAT THE HECK! POPPY DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS TOO!" I yelled.
"Um eh heh heh... Surprise?" She smiled hopefully.
"SO YOU KNEW I WAS GOING TO TURN INTO A FISH LADY AND YOU NEVER FREAKIN TOLD ME!" I was extremely mad. I could feel the rage boiling in the pit of my stomach. I clenched my fists. Steam was rising out of the water next to us. I knew if I stayed any longer something bad would happen. I moved to the water and dove in.
The best feeling I had ever felt spread over me. Despite all the anger I had felt I smiled and ran my fingers through the seaweed. I blew bubbles that formed into rings and swam through. The fish tickled me, swimming up and kissing my tail. I laughed and swam along. I thought this would be the worst thing that could happen to me but it was probably the best.
