You smiled sadly to yourself, as you heard the announcement.
"Tickets for Prom are officially on sale! Come buy your tickets at the front reception, and don't be late... We hope to see everyone there."
You sighed, gathering your notebooks and putting them back into your bag. You headed towards your locker, thinking about Prom. How much you wanted to go! But you didn't have a date, you knew no one would ask you either. It's not that you weren't pretty or nice, it's just that you didn't make many friends and were quite quiet and shy, and didn't speak to many people, consequently you weren't close to many guys. Besides, there was only one boy you would be happy to be going with, and he sure as anything would not choose you. Sighing, you opened your locker and dumped your textbook, before shutting it and spinning around, bumping into someone.
"Oh! Sorry," They said, and you recognised his voice. Park Jimin... The school's most popular guy. And the guy you wanted to go to Prom with. Wishful thinking much, eh?
"It's okay," You smiled, trying not to blush in front of him. You observed his handsome features, as he took things out of his own locker. Suddenly, a girl came up to him and draped an arm through his, linking their arms together. It was Mina, one of the school's most popular girls. Of course it made sense that she would be after Jimin.... You avoided her gaze and looked away, proceeding to leave.
"Bye Y/N!" He called, and you stood there shocked, as they walked in the opposite direction. You couldn't help but smile - he remembered your name, when you thought he didn't even know you existed.Over the next few days, you plucked up the courage to talk to him casually, but not fangirl over him like the other girls. When he happened to be at the lockers at the same time as you, you'd greet each other, and occasionally you would wave to him as you entered the classroom. To your surprise, he would smile and wave back, and even more surprisingly the other day he came to your desk and spoke to you before class started. Is this a dream?
"Hey," You grinned as you approached Jimin by the lockers. He was just able to reply when Mina grabbed his hand, smirking at me before pulling him away. Jimin apologetically smiled as he was tagged along. You sighed, but there was nothing you could do. He was popular, he's bound to like the popular girls, and you didn't want to ruin your mood thinking about it. You swung open your locker door but as you were about to remove a book, you noticed an envelope.
Confused, you took it out and opened it - inside was a prom ticket!
"But I didn't buy one..." You mumbled to yourself. On the back in scribbled handwriting, was the message:
"I knew you wouldn't buy a ticket yourself, so I bought one for you. I want you to be there... Please come."You smiled, wondering who it could be. Guess you'll be going to Prom after all...
~time skip - Prom Night~
You stood in your pale pink dress and heels, with your hair curled into a pretty half up half down hairstyle which really suited you. You bit your lip, trying to find some girls in your class you could talk to. Just as you spotted some of your friends, a hand gripped your wrist. You turned to see the smiling face of Park Jimin.
"Hey... You look beautiful," He mumbled, looking at you with awe. You blushed and told him he looked equally handsome, and he laughed while blushing, running his hand through his hair.
"It's good to see you! I wasn't sure if you were coming," He grinned, and I nodded, but didn't tell him how I got the ticket. Then, the principal stood up on the stage to speak, so we turned our attention to him."Good evening! It's finally time to crown a Prom King and Queen, don't you think?"
A cheer rose up from the crowd.
"Alright! This time, we are going things slightly differently. There will be no vote - I will select a name from this box, and he shall be the King! He will then get to select his Queen himself!" He took a slip of paper from the box, and excited mutterings could be heard.
"This year's Prom King is...Park Jimin!"
Loud cheers and clapping sounded loudly, and I clapped excitedly, grinning at him. He smiled at me before Mina suddenly appeared, pushing him towards the stage. I heard her squeal, "You know who to pick as your queen, don't you!" She giggled. You frowned, but looked up as Jimin had now reached the stage, and was smiling.
"So, have you thought of who the Prom Queen is?"
Jimin grinned, and he ran his hands through his hair again.
"Yes..." He looked over in your direction, and your breath hitched.
"She's a wonderful person, and looks absolutely gorgeous tonight..." And he pointed. All heads turned to look in your direction, as you gasped. Could it be...?
"Yes! Jimin, I knew it!" Mina laughed, and your heart sank. Of course. She was stood right beside you, so he was pointing to her. You watched as tears pricked your eyes, as Mina pushed her way to the front. You couldn't stay there anymore, and headed for the nearest exit into the gardens. The last thing you heard was Jimin's voice through the microphone but you weren't listening."Y/N!"
You spun around at his voice.
"What are you doing here?" You asked, confused. "Shouldn't you be with Mina?"
He looked slightly annoyed.
"No... Why would I be with her?"
His question puzzled you. "Erm... Because she's your prom queen...?"
Jimin let out a short chuckle, and cupped your face with his hands. Your eyes widened at his action.
"Mina isn't my Prom Queen... I wasn't pointing to her. My Prom Queen is you, Y/N, but you went away without letting me clear the confusion. That ticket... I put it in your locker."
You gasped, and opened and closed your mouth, being at a loss for words.
"Stop, you look like a fish," He laughed, and suddenly his soft lips were kissing yours.
"Be Mine, Y/N?"
You smiled and blushed, nodding.
"I always was."
