Soon, I arrived at the address that Jessie sent me and I was pretty sure it was correct.
It was one of the rich parties. Parties only people like me were invited to. The wide driveway where littered all over with stray underwear, red cups and streamers. The wooden double doors were wide open and the loud dance music boomed out, letting the whole of Green Haven know that there was a party.
I got out of the car and cautiously made my way up the large driveway and into the house; the music and stench of alcohol attacked me as I searched the house for My best friend and my ex-girlfriend.
I had developed a headache from all the bumping and grinding from the dancers as I pushed and shoved through what I thought was the living room. I spotted a very drunk Stiff next to a worried looking Jessie and made my way towards them.
"Finally, you're here." Jessie smiled in relief when I came over. Stiff stood up from the couch and danced over to where I stood. His movements were sloppy and uncoordinated. Definitely drunk.
"Colby! It's nice to see you dude! You here to take some more shots with me?" he said wrapped a heavy arm around my shoulders. He leaned in closer and I cringed at the smell of his breath. "Oh yeah, how was your date with that Sanders girl?"
"She dumped me, Stiff." I said in frustration. Why did everyone keep asking me about her?
"She was a good for nothing whore anyway. Come get wasted with me, forget her," he grabbed a random bottle of beer out of nowhere and shoved it in my face. The temptation to grab the bottle and drink today away was crazy, but then I remembered Jamie, and I didn't want to forget her.
"Stiff, let's just get you home," I said grabbing his shoulders and starting to push him out of the house. But he didn't budge.
"No! I'm not leaving 'til you take a drink, amigo!" He chuckled deeply and I knew he wasn't going to remember a thing tomorrow morning.
"I don't think that's a good idea, Stephan," Jessie reached out and put an arm on Stiff's shoulder, but he pulled away like her touch was deathly poisonous.
"Don't touch me, you peasant," he spat and glared at her in hatred. "You'll never be good enough for anyone of us. You were only known because Colby was stupid enough to date you."
Jessie's expression dropped instantly and she looked to me with sad eyes - the eyes I fell for. My heart twinged with sympathy but other then that, I felt nothing. She looked like she was about to cry, but she shook her head.
"Take him home safe, okay?" her voice was soft but shaky.
I nodded and took Stiff's arm around my shoulder, helping him stand up from the tattered couch that was helping him to stay on two feet. Stiff mumbled incoherent complains as I started to lug his 6'2" frame out of the house.
"Colby?!" I heard Jessie call to me. I turned around awkwardly to look at her and she flashed a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "You look... good."
"Whatever," I span back around again and continued to drag Stiff outside and to my car. What the hell did she mean by, "You look good"?
I decided not to look too much into it and focus on getting Stiff home. I finally reached the front door of the house and hauled Stiff to my car. It seemed that he was making no effort to walk himself, knowing he would trip over and take me down with him if he even attempted to walk in a straight line.
When I got Stiff into the car, I slipped into the driver's seat and started for Stiff's house. Soon after I started driving, I heard a groan and mumble from my right. "Wh-Where are we going, dude?"
"I'm getting you home, Stiff," I told him, as I drove down the street and stopped at the red light.
"There better be a girl in the back seat or we're turning back," he grumbled.
"There's no girl, you were too drunk to walk, let alone charm a girl into taking YOU back to your place," I laughed at my idiot of a best friend.
"Ah, Whatever. I'm tired. I think I'm gonna puke too," Stiff began to wind down the window and as soon as I continued driving on the green light, Stiff brought his guts up all over the side walk.
"Dude, I could get a fine!" I scorned him, but he continued to wretch and throw up as I drove down the street. "If there is a drop of your sick on my car, you are scrubbing it clean and buying me a new paint job."
"Oh, shut up, Colby," he groaned, pulling his head back inside the car and shrugged. "Why do you care about a fine? It's not like you don't have the money."
"You know I don't like to show off about my wealth, Stiff. It's not good for my parents rep either."
"Cool story, bro. Now take me home."
We drove in what would have been silence for the rest of the ride if Stiff wouldn't stop moaning that he was gonna puke again and me screaming at him to hold it in until we got to his house.
I parked up in his drive and got him out of the car again, remembering to nudge the car door shut with my foot.
"Stay awake for a minute, dude. You're getting heavy," I told him. He was relying on me much more to hold him up, as he faded in and out of consciousness.
"You know, Colby? If I was gay, I'd totally tap your ass," Stiff mumbled sleepily. "I mean, your hot, rich and funny. I don't know why girls dump you. Auditions and shit is a bonus."
"Thanks for the compliment," I nodded and dragged him to his door.
"Your welcome, man. We should hang out tomorrow," he suggested.
"I'll be over first thing tomorrow," I assured him.
"Good."
I rang his doorbell and waited for, John, the Blake family butler, to answer the door. When he did, he took Stiff from me and smiled gratefully. "Thank you, Mr Evans. It saves me a late night drive to get him."
"You're welcome, John. Now get him to bed and get some aspirin and water for when he wakes up. He'll need it," I instructed.
"I'll do that, Mr Evans."
"See you tomorrow," I waved to John as I walked away and watched as he took Stiff inside and closed the door behind him.
The end of another hectic day, I thought to myself.
