A blaring noise jerked me out of sleep, causing me to jump up and fall off the bed. "Ouch." I muttered.

I picked up the phone which just happened to be the cause of the annoying noise. I groaned. It was only 9:30. Who could want to alk to me this early?

It was Jamie calling me. "Hello?" I asked, and I still sounded groggy.

"Morning Sleeping Beauty." She greeted me, laughing.

I yawned. "Shouldn't you be in bed?" I asked.

"Naw." she said "I had to get up early today." She paused for a moment. "I'm bored. There's nothing to do around here."

I gasped. "Are you saying that this is the most boring place that you've been to? I find that insulting."

"I didn't say that." she stated, "I said that there was nothing to do."

"Whatever." I said. "I'll be by in about an hour to pick you up."

"What are we doing?" she asked.

"I have an idea, but do you need to be back at all today?"

"Not really." she said, unsure. "Let me ask." I heard her yell to someone and I couldn't understand the muffled reply. "She wants to know what we'd be doing."

I thought for a moment. "Then put her on the phone." I replied.

"Hello?" A woman asked.

"Hi." I replied

"Where do you want to take Jamie?" she asked bluntly.

"Is she listening?" I asked.

"Uh, nope." she replied.

"Cool. I want to take her skiing."

"That sounds like fun. Don't let her die." she said with a laugh.

"I don't plan to."

"Here she is."

"You done talking to my grandma yet?" Jamie asked.

"Yes. Now, I need to ask you to dress REALLY warmly and bring a change of clothes." I stated.

"Why?" she asked, confused.

"We're going to the snow, so you might want to dress very very warmly." I said.

"Ooh! Yay!" she shouted.

"Do I need to hang up before my eardrums get blown out?" I asked.

"Noooo!" she said "Don't leave me here!!!"

"I have to go home though and I can't drive while tallking to you otherwise I might crash and the whole thing would be cancelled." I said with a smile.

"Don't die!" she yelled.

"See you in an hour Jamie." I said. "You'd better be ready."

"Okay." she said. "See you soon." and hung up.

I shook my head and got dressed. "Bye Stiff!" I yelled and he grunted a response. "I'm going skiing so I probably won't answer any calls."

He grunted again and I jumped in my car, and pretty soon I was pulling into my garage, jumping out of the car and running around like crazy getting ready.

In not long enough, I was pulling out of the driveway. and picking up Jamie.

"Hi." she said excitedy when she hopped in the car.

"Hi." I replied. "The ride's going to be about an hour and a half." I told her.

She shrugged. "That's pretty short. Are you sure there's even snow that close to us?"

"Hey! I've lived in SoCal all my life and you think I don't know how far away snow is!" I made it sound as if I was insulted, but in reality I would have doubted that time if I hadn't driven it as many times as I had.

She punched me in the arm lightly and laughed. "I thought it was called Cali. I've never heard anyone call it SoCal."

I sighed dramatically. "The only people that call it Cali are from out of state, so it makes sense you would think that, being from the South and all." I dropped into a convincing southern accent at this point, causing her to erupt into more laughter. At this point, I turned the car on. "Ready, Freddy?"

"Ready." She said, after catching her breath.

And then we took off down the street, away from the city, and pretty soon we were getting close to the ski resort, unaware of the danger that awaited us there.
