Gerard's POV
Three bodies... What the actual fuck?
I hold Frankie's hand tightly, squeezing it slightly, just enough pressure for it not to hurt him, but still tough enough to stable me.
It can't be dad, he left for work. Sammy's in there....mom is in there... Who else would it be?
I try and stay calm. They must of got it wrong... Yeah, now I'm questioning their job, good for you Gerard. Oh great, here Gee goes with speaking in third person. Oh fan-flipping-tastic.
My heart race increased for some reason. Why would anyone else be in there? Who would want to be in there? Why the fuck was a stranger in my house? This is just too confusing.
Ray gently made a grab for Mikey's arm to stop the teenager from getting anyway near the house he was so desperate to get back to. I bit my lip, racking my brain for any consolation of who the stalker might've been.
I turn to Frank and he just shrugs, rubbing the back of his neck anxiously. Well this is awkward...
"Y'know my dad disapproves of us..."
I don't turn my head to face him, my head stays straight ahead staring at the wreckage of my house, but my eyes go to the corner of my socket to see Frank in his glory. I know both of his parents don't particularly like the fact that Frank and I are dating, but I also know his dad is a big influence in Frank's life.
"I know," I whisper, my voice not cold but certainly not sombre.
"He wanted me to play drums," he admitted to me, his head turning upwards to face the sky.
I bite my lip hard.
"I know..."
"I disappointed him," Frank's voice cracked.
I didn't answer this time and instead I gave his hand another squeeze.
"Guys," Ray calls, his head turning over his shoulder to look at us.
"What?" Frank asks, snapping out of his dreamlike underworld.
"You better come see the source of the fire," he shouts to us.
I raise my eyebrows.
"We already know the cause of the fire, Ray. It was the lighter, the lighter I took out and I shouldn't have dropped it. You don't have to rub it in that I killed my own mom!" I snap, my eyes growing cold and I whimper slightly.
"No, Gerard, it wasn't that," Ray's voice stays steady.
I share a confused glance with Frank before we both walk over to him and Mikes. The fireman came over to us, placing his palm out and sure enough, there was a blackened lighter in his hand.
"I told you," I sniffed, trying not to cry.
"No, look closer," Ray told me, Mikey not even paying attention, his eyes glued to the burned down house.
I roll my eyes but rub at the side of the object, brushing off the black dust. My hand stopped rubbing when a little star appeared on the side, engraved on the lighter.
"That... That isn't my lighter..."
