Wandering through peaceful and prodigious forests was one of the things you loved the most. Once you stepped onto Mother Nature’s first gold of green, you would get that frail feeling of healing, as though a silvery, wispy string of aura circled you. You stood in the center of an unfamiliar forest, perplexed, looking around for any sign of a person or escape.
A cold laugh echoed within the forest. You felt a knot in your stomach, something completely different to the butterflies you felt began to flutter when you were around him. The voice, most likely of whom laughed, spoke in a husky and deep voice.
“Yozora,” it said. “soon…you shall see who you truly are and where you belong.”
“What?”
“By converting you, we shall bring darkness where there is light, and death where there is life. Don’t you know the more powerful us two will rule supreme so I’ll be making the decisions from then. The worthless humans who were there before you came to the palace won’t know what slit their throats.”
You began to sharpen blades from your wood-brown eyes. “Over my dead body.”
“My thoughts exactly.”
A forceful gush of translucent grey wind, in the form of an armoured man’s shape, blew into you, almost pushing you over…before you lose consciousness.
…
You bolted upright from your position on the futon, sweat bathing your forehead and cheeks, breathing heavily as though you had just finished a race. You lifted a hand and covered your eyes in disbelief. You heard Jakotsu snoring softly next to you, an arm draped across your part of the large futon – he might have been hugging you in your sleep. The Shichinintai and yourself were sleeping in a large square room that Bankotsu had found and wanted to gather for the night.
“Zora?”
Your head snapped out towards the smooth whisper from your right. Bankotsu was watching you with a concerned look, his eyes narrowed. You sighed and tossed your hair over your shoulder to have some cool air on your neck. You were only wearing a sarashi and a black hakama (so it was only natural that half of them tried flirting with you about it) and it was a bit of a hot night, despite the freezing wind that flew past the room every now and again.
“Bankotsu…” you spoke in barely a whisper, although, he was able to hear you.
“Yeah?”
You hesitated, but said, “Come next to me.”
Awaiting for the smirk or unnecessary pick-up line, you squeezed your eyes shut but nothing came. Opening them, you were surprised to see only a sad smile on Bankotsu’s tanned face. He rose to his feet, clutching his sheets in his hand and tip-toed past Suikotsu towards you, making space between him and yourself.
“Nightmare?” he asked, settling himself on the large futon. You lowered so you were resting on your elbows, avoiding eye contact. Instinctively you nodded. He wrapped an arm around your shoulders and chuckled, snuggling his face into your neck, causing you to blush but thankfully for the darkness, Bankotsu didn’t see it. “Don’t worry; I’m here.”
As corny as it sounded, it actually cheered you up by just a milimetre, so did the corners of your lips in turning upwards, but like usual, you didn’t allow Bankotsu to see it but unknown to you, he did see it and was satisfied with the reaction.
