Chapter 5

Kenta was walking through the halls of the castle as he always did when he had nothing to do or simply had no mood for drinking parties with strangers and staff. It was then when he heard soft mumbles through the doors that lead to ‘Rara-chan’s room. He pressed his ear through the hard paper-like material of the shoji doors, only to be interrupted by no other than Ruka.

“Kenta! We found Hamaguri!”

Kenta flinched and ‘ssh’ed her, only for her to freeze.

“Let’s go somewhere else.” he said to her, as she follows her to the corridors so that Yozora wouldn’t hear their conversation.

“Is it serious? Is Hama-chan sick? Is Yozora pregnant!?”

Kenta sighed. Ruka was practically the most upbeat, yet annoying individual in the castle.

“None of those, I’m sure. Cut to the chase, I heard Rara-chan mumbling in her room earlier just before you came. Is she upset or something?” Kenta asked in a serious tone. Ruka blinked as she began to think.

“Well, I did see Yozora run into the castle by the back door from the kitchen that leads to the forest. She didn’t look too happy. And then I saw Bankotsu-kun walking into the throne room looking confused. And I heard Nishizawa-sama sigh from outside the door.”

Kenta sighed in miracle...for once, this girl actually behaved decent.

“What’s going on?”

Kenta and Ruka flinched at the harsh voice from behind them.

“Ah, R-rara-chan!” Kenta exclaimed, acting like nothing happened. The funny thing was that Yozora didn’t look that different, except that her hair was in a high ponytail and a shawl around her.

“What was the pair of you talking about?” she asked now softer, to Kenta and Ruka’s relief.

“Just the issue Hyura has hired the Band of Seven for, that’s all!” said Kenta with his usual smile, adding a wave. Yozora blinked.

“What is the issue then?”

“I’m not going to lie to you – our noblewoman has been having another row with a nobleman in the south. Whatever the Band of Seven intends to do under her request, she wants them to...well, you know Hyura has an incredibly dark side and she wants to deal with that nobleman.”

“That’s it? I actually expected a war.”

“Well, there are rumours travelling quick around the area about one starting mid-fall.” Kenta shrugged. Yozora turned to Ruka.

“Did you know about this, Ruka?”

“Me?” Ruka pointed towards herself with Hamaguri still in her arms, looking unalive. “No. Kenta was just about to tell me until you came along.”

“Okay? Then how come I never knew of this?”

“Oh, Rara-chan! Hyura just told us this morning after breakfast! You didn’t join us, after all, so you weren’t conscious of the situation. Hyura had set the men to set out on Monday morning and since today is Friday, they have two days of peace until the deal for Hyura and her so-called rival. And you know what Friday means?” Kenta grinned, causing Ruka, Yozora and Hamaguri to freeze.
