"You're gonna die you know," Ashton said to Luke who was lying next to him on the bed, gazing up at the ceiling.

Luke let out a loud sigh. "I know," he mumbled, "but so will you."

"Yeah, well....at least we'll have each other's company. You think we'll be buried in the same coffin? Or side by side?" Ashton said curiously, eyes never leaving the view above him.

Luke thought for a while then chuckled. "You better not annoy the shit out of me in the after life....and you better not get on my side of the coffin or I'll push you out."

"It's not like you'd feel it!" Ashton said giggling uncontrollably at Luke's answer.

"Yeah? Why's that?" Luke questioned.

"You'll be dead dumbass!" Ashton declared proudly while shoving Luke a little. The room went silent. Both boys were still staring up, accompanied only by the faint beeping sound coming from Luke's machine.

After a few minutes of silence, Ashton looked over at him. He stared at the side of his face, analyzing every curve. He then moved his eyes down to his frail body and weak looking limbs.

"Ashton? You're fond is showing."

He turned away slightly, his cheeks heating up a little. "I know...but maybe if you weren't so damn pretty I might actually stop."

Luke looked at him, breaking his gaze from the ceiling. "You're pretty too," he said confidently. He reached out slowly to stroke Ashton's cheek, but he felt bad. His hand went limp halfway and landed on his chest instead. Ashton chuckled weakly.

"I think you need to sleep babe," Ashton stated.

"But I don't want you to leave me. I'm scared," Luke pouted, holding on tightly to Ashton's hand. He squeezed back lightly.

"I'll be there when you wake. It'll be okay." Ashton reassured him. He leaned in for a kiss, which Luke willingly took.

As Luke began to relax and shut his eyes a nurse came in. "Mr. Hemmings? You need to take these." She said, walking over and handing him 3 different pills and set down a glass of water. "Take them before you rest. Goodnight Mr. Hemmings." And with that she left the room sighing.

Ashton and Luke just stared at the pills.

"I can take them first if you want. It's the same thing," Ashton spoke up.

"No," Luke said letting out a breath he wasn't aware he was holding in. "I need to take them."

"Ok Luke," Ashton mumbled. Luke slowly leaned up, picked up the pills, popped them in his mouth, and grabbed the glass of water taking a few sips. After Ashton watched him, he saw a stray tear run down the side of Luke's face. Luke fell back down onto the bed and began to lock eyes with the ceiling again.

"It kind of looks like a house."

Ashton looked back up. "What does Luke?"

"Look," he said in response while pointing to the brush strokes above their heads. Truth be hold it did look like a house; a house with beautiful grass land and blooming flowers and apple trees. He even saw him and Luke frolicking through the open space, the sun shining down on their heads and smiles on their faces.

Their lives weren't as special as the image of a dream, fresh in their minds, reflected onto the ceiling of their hospital room.

Luke leaned into the crook of Ashton's neck and cuddled himself into him. Ashton looked ahead at their perfect life while holding his love for what hopefully wouldn't be the last time.

Luke closed his eyes. "I love you Ashton."

"I love you Luke."

Ashton kissed his forehead, his lips lingering for a bit then finally breaking off. He felt the slow rise and fall of Luke's chest.

In...Out....In......Out........In..................Out...........In...................Out.................................

Then nothing.

Ashton didn't move. He simply kept his eyes on the ceiling above. He never broke away from his happy idea of Luke and him being together forever and now they'd finally get to.

He moved his right hand across his freshly shaved head and smiled. He looked at his bed and then the one him and Luke were sharing.

Ashton then closed his eyes slowly, a small smile still played on his face.

It's okay Luke. We'll have the perfect afterlife full of the dreams we've created on the ceiling.

There was a loud, long beep on Ashton's breathing machine.

HELLO FROM THE OTHER SIIIIIIIIDE

Yeah yeah I know this isn't very good. Very short. I guess it can be a short story instead of a one shot. Maybe after I get rest and turn in all those overdue papers tomorrow I'll edit?

And I'm back by the way. I kinda took a break from writing (I think it was writer's block...or maybe I was just lazy, idk) and now I have more ideas and stuff so....yep.

The next one is on my laptop and it's ready so be on the lookout! Thanks for being patient and again sorry (is it too late now to say sorry? 😏)

Until today or tomorrow...(If you get that ily💕so many references.)
