Scurvy had chased that idiot Milton all the way to the stables. He was still in dog form, but the young man was still terrified of him. Scurvy reveled in the fear the boy felt as he did with anyone who underestimated his prowess. Normally he didn't go out of his way to attack anyone, but this young man had the audacity to manhandle Sophie. As her protector Scurvy was never going to allow anyone to lay a hand on her. His anger also stemmed from jealousy as well, thinking this boy may have designs on her. That was a prospect he just couldn't handle.
He knew all about the mating rituals of humans and the thought of anyone doing that to his Sophie disgusted him. He looked around the stables knowing that idiot ran in there. He snuffed the air and the stink of that expensive cologne was in the air.
Where are you? Scurvy asked knowing that lowlife couldn't hear him. He wasn't going to kill him. He was just going to scare him out of his mind.
He looked all around and saw that the horses were calm. That only meant that he hadn't spooked them, but he would fix that.
He looked up to the sky and instantly he began his transformation. His body became taller and his claws grew longer. The horses took note of this and jumped around in their stalls and became quite agitated. Just then he heard a scream and the stall door that held a black stallion opened, and there rolled out the man he was seeking.
"There you are?" Scurvy said and ran towards him and picked him up by the collar. He was screaming in terror just as he heard another scream. This one sounded much more feminine.
He turned around to see Sophie standing just inside the barn door. "Scurvy, please, put him down."
"Why?" Scurvy growled out. He looked back at Milton to see he had turned white as a sheet. Even his brown hair looked a few shades lighter.
"Let him go," Sophie repeated her plea. "You don't have to hurt him. I don't want you to, please, Scurvy."
At that moment something inside his soul softened and his need to punish this boy-man dissolved. All he could see was Sophie's pleading eyes. The violent scenarios of different ways he could hurt him left his mind. He still hated him, and for a moment he did want to kill him. If he had that act alone would have hurt Sophie more than anything... to see him kill over something so trivial. He slowly let go of the man and had his eyes fixated on Sophie.
After a moment she looked passed him and saw that Milton picked an iron and held it up high about to swing it at Scurvy.
"Look out!" Sophie screamed.
Scurvy acted fast and caught the iron in his paws. There was no way Milton could overpower him. He simply snatched it out of his hand and threw it aside.
"You're going to die, freak!" Milton shouted and swung a rake at him. The teeth of the tool caught him in the upper leg, which made Scurvy cry out in pain. Sophie screamed too and ran towards him. She saw the blood seeping out from the wound and tried to help him.
"Milton, why did you do that?" Sophie screamed. She grabbed one of the blankets out of the supply stall and tried to stop the bleeding.
"Move away from it, Sophia, so I can kill it," Milton said as he picked up the iron.
"I won't let you kill him!" Sophie screamed and grabbed the rake. She was determined to defend Scurvy from this man.
He wasn't reacting any different than any normal human would if they discovered a mere dog was actually a werewolf.
"He's a monster," Milton said as he swung the iron at Sophie, but she blocked it with the rake. "Can't you see that!"
She didn't back down, and Milton was so preoccupied with Sophie that he didn't even see that Scurvy was inches from his feet and grabbed one and kicked him to the ground.
The iron went flying, but the black stallion that was Sophie's horse caught it in his mouth. Milton looked terrified. He was no match for one determined girl and an injured werewolf.
He would have run but a crowd gathered at the entrance of the barn, Amelia among them.
"Sophie, what happened?" Amelia shouted. Sophie looked to her sister and then back to Scurvy who despite his injury managed to escape. He pounded a gaping hole in the back of the barn wall and took off for parts unknown.
Amelia ran up next to her sister who was still holding the rake in her hand. "Milton tried to kill him," Sophie said and looked over at the young man that she had just no more than an hour ago danced with. He didn't look one bit sorry for what he did, and she looked back at her sister. "He's hurt, and he needs me."
"Sophie, we need to take you back into the house and get you cleaned up," Amelia said in a calm voice.
"No!" she said and jerked herself out of her sister's grip. "I have to find him."
She walked over to the black stallion and whispered in his ear. "Apollo, we need to find Scurvy." He gave a nod and she opened the stall fully. He already had a saddle on because she was planning on taking a ride after the party. She mounted the horse and looked over at the gaping hole in the wall. "Find Scurvy," she said one last time and looked over at Milton with disgust.
She rode out through the opening and took off to find her friend.
