Corey sat in the diner with Henry, Snow, and David. She slowly sipped her second hot chocolate of the day. Snow and David stared at her intently. Corey could see the concern in their eyes. Her face was pale white and her hands shook as she brought the warm mug to her lips. Then a ringing sound startled Corey causing her to spill her hot chocolate on the table. As she took a napkin and tried to clean it up. the ringing persisted. Snow pulled her phone out of her pocket and answered it.
".......Really, that was fast! We'll be there as soon as we can. . . . . . Does he suspect anything?. . . . . . . Ok good . . .we'll see you soon bye" Snow hung up the phone. As she looked up from putting it back in her pocket she saw Corey and Henry at the door with their coats on and Corey was no longer as pale as a ghost. David let out a laugh as I stood up and helped Snow get her coat on.
"How far are they?.... How many knots are they going? ....... How is my father?" Corey asked as the walked towards the docks. Corey wanted to run all the way there but she didn't know where she was going.
" one question at a time" David said with a laugh.
"Oh sorry." Corey said. " I'm just really excited." But then she stopped in her tracks. Corey closed her eyes and took a deep breathe through her nose. A huge smile spread across her face as she began to sprint.
"The sea's this way! I can sense it!" Corey called behind her as she sprinted ahead. David, Henry, and Snow tried to keep up. But they quickly lost sight of her.
Corey could smell the sea. The stronger the smell of the salty water, seaweed, and dead fish got. The faster she ran. The wind whipped her face as she ran. Then she caught sight of the docks. As she approached she slowed to a walk. She observed the water and the locations of the boats trying to determine where her father would most likely choose to drop anchor. She sat on the wooden boards of the dock, as close to the spot as she could. She closed her eyes and imagined how it would be when her father would first saw her face. She imagined her father was running towards her with his arms open and ready to embrace her. But then her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps behind her.
" why are you waiting here? There's a bench right over there" Henry said. Corey stood up and turned to face him.
"My father will be docking here and even if he's not the one steering the ship any captain with enough sense knows that this is the only place you can fit a ship of the Jolly Rogers size." Corey said matter a factly.
