Chloe was curled up in the waiting area of JFK since 5am this morning. Her flight has been delayed two times already. She pulled the headphones out of her bag to listen to some music. She hoped that time would pass quicker that way. Just two days ago she decided she would go to London. She had no idea why, couldn't explain her choice when friends and other models asked her. She wasn't even sure she would continue modeling in London. But what else was she going to do? Modeling was the only job she ever had. The idea of going back to school wasn't that exciting anymore now that she thought about it.
A few hours later, Chloe was still waiting to board, her friend Elle showed up. Like Chloe she was a model. Chloe saw Elle approaching her and put her headphones down.
C: What are you doing here? You certainly didn't come to say goodbye.
The model business was tough. You could pretend to have the best friends in the industry but those were most likely the same people who'd stab you in the back or take you out of the competition. Chloe knew that, Elle too. And although they were friends, they were fighting for the same thing.
E: I'm on my way to Miami. I got booked for two runway shows and a commercial.
C: That's so exciting... Bitch!
E: Are you really sure you're leaving New York? You can take a month off, travel the world. You don't need to abandon your entire life.
C: I think I have to. For now, at least. I need a complete change of scenery.
E: But London? Come to Miami with me, or go to LA. Why in God's name would you want to live in London?
C: I imagine it to be quite nice there... And far away from all you crazy people!
E: Alright, I guess I can't change your mind then. Good luck, Chloe.
She came closer and hugged me. It was the coldest and most distant hug I got in a long time. I bet if I asked the lady sitting next to me to hug me, I'd actually feel more.
C: Thanks, and good luck to you too. Bye!
I watched her as she turned around and left. Her nose up in the air, bumping into people who got in her way.
Suddenly London seemed like a very good idea!
