Two weeks have passed since our little hangover and forehead kisses tragedy. Hana, the Monday after the kiss, had pretended like nothing ever happened. I was too embarrassed to mention about it so I just went with her.
Things were awkward at first on my part but it's hard to stay awkward with Hana, so it went back to normal. The whole school was counting down to the last day of school before summer break.
Today was the day.
I woke up feeling nothing much. No excitement or dread. I got ready for school and when I was done, I went downstairs for breakfast.
'Morning, parents.' I greeted after choosing the seat besides my dad. I took two pieces of pancakes and drizzled some mapple syrup on top of it. My mom hand me a cup of jasmine green tea and I took a sip.
'Taehyung, today is your last day of school, right ? Before summer break.' I nodded to my dad's question. This is it. What I have been afraid to hear. 'We're going the day after tomorrow.'
'I'm sorry for informing you so late but I need to present a paperwork there. So we need to leave early' My dad explained. I was dumbfounded. The day after tomorrow was too soon.
'Can I not go ?' I asked hesitantly.
'Taehyung, don't.' My dad said sternly.
'Fine.' I replied, solemnly. What else could I have said ? It's not like I could go against them. They'll drag me along anyway.
I did not plan to leave Hana alone that long, though. Anything could've happened while I'm gone and I won't be able to be there for her.
I went to school with a heavy feeling. I don't know how to break the news to Hana. I don't know how to tell her I'm going to leave her alone when I promised I'll stay by her side.
'Hey, Taehyung. Why the long face ?' Hana's voice broke my trance of thoughts. I didn't even noticed I was already in the class.
'Hey.' I replied. 'Nothing much.''Are you sure ?' She was smiling at me and leaning down, tilting her head to see my face as I was looking down on the table. I nod. She didn't seem to believe this.
'Are you sure ?' She squinted her eyes at me. Looking at her right then, I made up my mind. I'll tell her later. When we walked home later. Not now. Now, I'll enjoy this while I still could.
'Very.' I gave her a wide, fake smile. She was still doubting me but the teacher came in.
'If you say so.' She shrugged but her gaze still lingered on me.
'I said so.' I winked at her and she rolled her eyes.
'Good morning, class.' Mrs. Kwon greeted the whole class. 'I know all of you are excited for the summer break. I have to remind you not to get carried away. To those of you who has registered for the summer class, please come to see me later to get the time table. And for the rest, don't forget about your project that you need to hand in first thing after your break. Understand ?'
'Yes, Mrs. Kwon.' The whole class replied. The excitement was undeniable in their voices. Mrs. Kwon just shook her head.
'That's all. Anyone who has to see me, please do so. Enjoy your holiday. Happy summer, kids.' She smiled and left our class.
'Happy summer !' They yelled back.
The other lessons went quite the same, teachers giving last minute briefing about any work they have assigned us to. Wishes for a happy holidays were exchanged. Recess came and I decided to drink something other than coffee, just because.
