Hana came before me today. The class went like usual. We didn't talk like usual. I don't know why I'm still delaying on returning her books.
It's recess time and I saw her took her lunch pack and head to the staircase that lead to rooftop. I bought my lunch and brought her book, then I'm heading the same way.
The cold wind hit me first thing when I opened the door of the rooftop. I noticed Hana already made herself comfortable in her corner. I started walking towards her.
She noticed I was going to the opposite of my supposed direction so she lifted her head. Her eyes showed her surprise when she saw the book I was holding.
'I searched for that book everywhere ! I even came early just in case I left it in the class' She looked annoyed.
'Are you kidding ? You're the one who left it on the table last Friday !' Ungrateful brat.
'Oh, really ? Then why didn't you gave it to me at the cafe ?'
'How should I know you work there ?'
'Oh, right. Okay then. My bad. Thank you so much for keeping it for me, Taehyung.' She grabbed the book and bowed a little.
I squinted my eyes. 'Is that genuine ?'
'Very.' She had a playful look in her eyes and a ghost of smile on her lips that made me shook my head. My annoyance disappeared replaced with a sudden urge to smile along.
I sat beside her on the hardwood floor. She already finished what I assumed from the wrapper was chocolates chip cookies. I took out the ramen I got from the cafeteria and started eating.
Hana was looking at me weird.
'What ? You want some ?' I asked, offering the ramen cup. Hana shook her head and smiled.
'You're weird, do you know that ?' She said randomly. Not looking at me but instead, the rows of plants decorating the rooftop.
'Thanks. I'm very flattered.' Sarcastic. 'How so, though ?'
'You don't seem to talk to anyone here. Don't you have friends ?'
'Talk about yourself.'
'Hey, I'm a new student. Of course I don't have friends. Duh.' I chuckled at this. She did too.
'I don't know. I guess I don't feel like dealing with people. It's very tiring.' She nod. I nod too, not knowing why. She punched me in the arm, laughing.
'Why are you talking to me then ?'
'I don't know. Maybe because you didn't look like you want to deal with people much too.' And because there's something about you that I can't walk away from, this I didn't say. There's something in the way that you're hiding your pain that made me want to know all about it. I didn't say that too.
'I heard you're one of the best students in class.' She stated mockingly after a moment of silent.
'Why ? You don't believe it ?' It's true, though. I don't have any friends so I preferred to stay at home. Sometimes when I have nothing to do, I would study. Very weird, I know. Who studies when they got bored ?
'You didn't look like it.'
'You think you do ? I wouldn't have believe it if the teacher never mentioned you have good grades at your last school. Look at you, you sleep in physics lab class.' I said jokingly.
'Hey ! I did like once.' Hana replied defensively. 'Why don't we bet for this exam ?'
I laughed. 'What do I get ?'
'What do you want ?'
'You need to buy me coffee for a week and I want to watch a movie at the cinema. You pay for the tickets and popcorn.' I don't even know why I said that. It's not like I don't have the money for it.
'A movie ? What movie ?'
'There's this new horror movie that will be released in a week and I have been wanting to see it. You watch horror movies, right ?' I did have a horror movie that I wanted to see.
'Of course !' She rolled her eyes. 'But if I win, you need to buy me three books and treat me to lunch for a week.' Hana smiled then frown. She didn't look satisfied with her bargain. Suddenly, she clapped her hand. 'Oh and you need to do girl group dance.'
My eyes went wide and I almost choked on my ramen. 'What ?! Girl group dance ?! No way. I'm so winning.' I said, determined. I won't dance to any girl group. Hell no.
Hana laughed. 'Oh god, you make me want to win so much more than I initially did.'
I can't help but to laugh along with Hana when she started to talk about the songs she would want me to dance to.
How funny. I'm laughing more in the span of 20 minutes with this girl I barely knew than I have for the whole month.
What's more funny ? It turned out that this broken girl have more laughter to give the world than I thought she did.
It's a day full of humour and I'm glad she didn't check her bookmark.
