[Chapter 1] Leaving Home [EDITED]

Mr. Matthews POV:

"Riley there is no way you are driving from New York to Los Angeles!" I say raising my voice

"Why not? I'm not eight anymore. Look at me! I'm not little anymore.  I'm going to a University. Dad, I'm growing up." She says putting her hand on my shoulder.

"But honey. It is just that, what if you get into an accident? Something bad might happen. Why don't you take a plane?"

"Really Dad? You know I have a fear of planes." Riley says raising an eyebrow at me.

"But you're my little girl. I don't want to be away from my baby." I pout.

She looks at her watch and looks back up at me with an annoyed look. She rolls her eyes then starts speaking.

"Dad I have to be there in two days. I have to go now."

"Fine, but be careful. And NO boys, got it?" She rolls her eyes "Yeah dad." she says.

"Did you -" She cuts me off.

"Yes, I said bye to mom and my brothers."

"Alright well everything is packed and ready to go." I couldn't help giving her a hug. "I love you, Riley."

"Love you too dad. I'm gonna miss you, and I promise I'll behave." She says hugging back.

"Okay well go, I don't want you to be late." I break our hug. As she got into her car I knew I could trust her. I can't believe my baby girl was growing up. Going to college. Wow, It seemed like it was just yesterday I was changing her diapers.

Riley's POV:

As I waved to my family goodbye I jumped into my car. I started the car and talked to myself.

"Okay, Riley! You can do this" I shook my head probably looking stupid, but I didn't care.

As I placed my hand on the wheel I checked my mirrors on one of them I saw my mom, dad, and brothers and they all gave me a nod. I smiled back at them. As I slowly drove away they started to wave.

"I'm not gonna cry. I'm not gonna cry." I told myself repeatedly. 

Before I turned the curve of my street I looked back and saw my old life fade away into the distance....
